How on earth can you be an Alabama basketball fan who has watched basketball the last 10 seasons and then watch this team and audibly say that we are mentally weak

Aside from people just riding the emotional rollercoaster that is a college basketball game and venting their frustration I really don't know how you explain that attitude. Like, if you gave Avery this exact same roster we would have found a way to go 10-8/11-7 in conference play with several bad losses and find ourselves on the bubble.

Nate Oats: "We’re a better defensive team than I’ve ever coached"

Alabama basketball currently sits as the third-best defensive team in the nation according to KenPom

Neither JQ or Shack play above the rim. So, a lot of their finishes are very tough shots over bigger athletic guys.

I'm really starting to expect that JQ is going to become one of those Releford types around the rim next season. A little undersized but has a knack for making tough, contested layups among the trees. He's obviously a very crafty guy, he has really good handles and has a quick burst to get by just about anyone. He just needs a better understanding of which tough layup attempts are wise or necessary and when the spray or dump off is the right play. Some of that will have to come with improved court vision and knowing exactly where your teammates are supposed to be as well.

After a year off of basketball, he's had to get back into his basketball groove, understand a new offensive scheme, learn how to actually play defense and play at a somewhat frenetic pace all while actually getting some real minutes at the P5 college level for the first time. He only played 228 minutes total at Villanova and we play at a much higher pace than they do.

I would suspect that he will be much more comfortable next season and cut down on the turnovers some. He's proven he can be a lethal shooter from three, that he can get to the paint almost at will to spray the ball out and that he can finish his drives with layups. But he's also been turnover prone in these situations.

He just hasn't been consistent in his actions once he gets to the paint. There are times he gets there and wants to pass the ball, but doesn't know where to go with it which leads to turnovers and there are times when he takes an ill advised layup that gets pretty easily blocked when he could have sprayed the ball out. I think that is something that can pretty easily be improved on with repetition and film study. As good as he has been this year, I think he has plenty of potential to take another step next season.

That's a really good comparative. Releford always said that he learned how to finish from being the tiny kid playing with bigger, tougher, older guys. Shack has a similar craftiness and ability to use the entire rim/backboard and shot angles.

Last night was JQ's first non-turnover night in a long while. Keep it rollin.

Do we really care which one we get between Miz/Ken?

Probably not, but i'd still rather get Missouri.

He's been huge lately. His last 2 games he is 8/13 at the rim, too.

Miz would need to lose their last 2 (@Fla/LSU) and Ken needs to beat SCar. All of that is very possible.

Yeah, I do think JQ has the potential to be really good next year. I was just giving my view in why we miss so many close rim shots.

Oh yeah, I didn't mean to sound like you were wrong in any way. I have just been thinking about a JQ/Rele comp for a couple days now and your post was the perfect time for me to mention it.

Then I went on to type a whole bunch of shite before I even realized it.

Probably why our offense is getting back on track. JQ, Ellis, and Primo are the keys to how we perform in March. If 2 or all 3 of them show up we can make some noise. If 1 or none show up then it'll be an early exit.

I think that's a good comparison. JQ definitely has very similar game. Releford was a wizard around the rim, and JQ does a lot of the same type of stuff.

Pearl in his postgame presser last night said the thing about us that's the most difficult to beat is that we are the best one on one, individual defensive team in the SEC.

Id like to see stats narrowing this to 1v1 on the perimeter. Seems like we have 4 or 5 guys that can completely stonewall the ballhandler

If Jax St moves into Q3, that stat about Q1/Q2 wins + playing ZERO Q4 opponents is damned impressive.
