So Bama isn't perfect and we might not win the national championship? Well crap.

you young guys are sensitive this AM. I hope your hump day is good. Bama BB used to get to me emotionally like FB but I decided a few years ago not to let it affect me. But realistically we could be one and done if we meet a very good mid major in the first round. We shot under 40% on all baskets and under 30 from 3 and under 60 from the FT line. With those numbers we lose to WKU.

not to be a debbie downer but we only scored 70 last night after AU turned it over 23 times. This would be akin to our FB team only scoring 24 points after a team turned it over 4 times.

If the other team turned it over 4 times in the redzone, would that automatically lead to points? Turnovers in basketball don't always lead to breakaway opportunities. They generally do more damage to the offending team's score. If Auburn had scored 70+ with that many TOs, then I think there would be cause for concern.

Should Arkansas feel worried because they only beat Bama by 15 despite shooting 30 more FREE attempts.

I understand the frustration behind Bama not blowing the doors off of Auburn last night, but despite Auburn's record, they're not some SWAC team - with or without Cooper. Aside from them cutting it to 5 in the 2nd half, Bama controlled things pretty much wire to wire. Those 30 point wins early in the season were anomalies, not the norm.

That is not at all realistic, nor is the notion that we will face a good mid-major in the first round. We're going to be a 2 seed. Good mid-majors get 7-13 seeds. Bid stealers and someone had to win it champions of bad conferences get 14-16 seeds.

We could find something to complain about in every single game if we wanted to.

We scored 105 points against LSU, but we also committed 16 turnovers and gave up 19 offensive rebounds. What happens if we don't hit 23 threes that night?

We scored 115 against UGA, but we committed 18 turnovers, gave up 12 offensive rebounds and committed 25 fouls. Good thing we shot 65% from the field and 60% from three.

There is no such thing as a perfect game of basketball. Even in our best performances, there will always be at least one or two areas where we could've played better that particular night. After 26 games, this team has shown that they are a well rounded ballclub with the ability to be one of the very best in the country when everything is clicking. And they've also shown that they can still win games with subpar shooting because of how tenacious they are defensively.

Bad shooting nights are going to happen - and that is likely what will cost us a game in the NCAAT - but otherwise this team has been consistent in pretty much every other area. Does this team have some flaws? Of course, every team in the country has flaws. But we have a lot less than most teams.

Our defense will allow us to play with anyone, anywhere, anytime. The key to making us almost unbeatable is when we are also shooting a high percentage on offense. We have been inconsistent in that regard lately and that has a major impact on how we look overall. But a lot of those misses have been great looks created by the system and style we play and the guys on the floor making the proper reads and playing unselfish basketball. If we can't make more of our wide open threes or shots around the basket, there really isn't much more to say. The guys have to execute better in that regard.

Pretty much anybody could lose in Round 1. But we'll be fairly rested and even if the shot isnt falling, our defense should bother the shite out of any 15 seed

Maybe. But if they win their tournament, Western Kentucky will be a 12 or 13 seed. A lot of times the 15 seeds are teams that absolutely would not even sniff the tournament if not for an auto-bid

There are six teams in the country with at least 20 wins:

Gonzaga 24-0
Belmont 23-3
Drake 22-3
Winthrop 21-1
Alabama 20-6
Arkansas 20-5

I tried to throw together a chart that shows our 2 week rolling averages in terms of where we ranked on Torvik and then throw in some "events" to note what was happening at those times.

It's kind of janky but it at least gives some idea of the ebb and flow of the season so far.

I think Western Kentucky moved up since yesterday too, now only two spots out of Q2.

Alabama has its best SEC record since the 1987 UA team went 16-2.

Alabama can tie that mark Saturday as it closes the regular season against Georgia (1 p.m. CT).

The 1955-56 “Rocket Eight” remains the only UA team to go undefeated in league play, but played only 14 games (14-0). This year’s team finished 12-1 at Coleman Coliseum, the best Alabama home record since the 2010-11 team was a perfect 19-0.

That almost perfectly illustrates what we've been saying. Pretty ho hum start to the season, then we turned into basketball gods and then tailed off a little bit with more inconsistency and a few really ugly offensive showings.

If we keep that green line towards the top and find a way to straighten the orange line out a little bit, we can be every bit as good as we hope to be.

Yep - and the offense is slowly but surely grinding it's way up the list. Another above average offensive performance Saturday and we'll probably be sitting in that #25 overall/#60 offense/#10 defense area for the last 2 weeks.

The offensive flow has been good lately for the most part, we're just not consistently making shots. Last night we did it for the first 10 minutes then for the last 10 minutes.

LOL, I wish.

I think it's fine to discuss the team. Obviously, we could play better. But most of the time this thread, and I'm not talking about anyone in particular, reads like it's year 10 of saban and we just won a squeaker against vandy.

We're playing with house money right now. I'm thrilled. We can still critique the team. For example I still can't fathom how Rojas gets off the bench when we have Bruner, Reese, Gary, Herb and even KAH that can play that spot.

Yeah, we could easily lose a game if the offense doesn't get more efficient. There are teams that might beat us even if we're playing well. But everyone knew that before the season started. That didn't change just because we won a lot of games.

I'm not a sunshine pumper, it's just that a lot of folks seem miserable about a team that is without a doubt exceeding the expectations those same folks had for it.

Anyway, "we're just discussing the team with our brethren" etc yadda yadda.

The 3 week rolling average is probably better as it goes 5 games at a time (generally), which gets a little better overall grasp. And it shows good things.
