Also, Michigan lost.

I had $5 on a seven leg parley to pay $193...Alabama to win and over 139.5, Norfolk to win and under 144, Hartford to win and under 136...and frigging Michigan to win.

Yes, that's true, we limit the mid-range shots, and threes are our offense, but when you're obviously struggling from behind the arc, it seems wise to shift the offense to what works.

Look, it's easy to say they should do this and do that....but, as they have all year, they stick to what they do....good defense, shoot 3s, attack basket, don't submit....and 23 times, and a tournament final later....it works!

Sure, we have won a lot of games. But it hasn't been from shooting 3s well. I think you know that too.

And we just added another Q1 win to the resume.

It is sort of crazy how good of a shot blocker Pons is at 6’6. The way drivers act when he’s around is not THAT different than they used to with Shaq or Anthony Davis.

That does change how we play for sure.

His ability to jump high, stay high and control his body not to initiate contact AND block shots is absurd

Yep, and another tomorrow if we win.

Honestly, I don’t see how they won’t consider us for the one seed if we pull it off. It would kind of be Insulting considering the way Michigan has finished their season. I think they are 3-3 in their last six.

Who do you think is a good mid range shooter on our team? Quinerly maybe the only one. We were horrendous with mid range and layups before Oats and whenever we tried that last year.

Yes, good inside presence is like good pitching. It wins.

Just a gutty win...
Imo, today's game showed, far and away, more about this team's character than any game we've played all year. They showed a "no quit" attitude that hasn't been around our basketball program in a long time.....Helluva effort!

But it’s predicated on long-term trends and metrics. If you’re shooting 25% from 3 at some point it’ll even out. So you don’t stop doing what statistics say you should keep doing.

Aside from that, it’s the threat of the 3 that allows shots at the rim, especially against teams with a guy like Pons. If you stop shooting 3s he can sink into the lane and simply block everything.

Here's what Oats says.

You shoot 45% from midrange and your expected value is .9 per shot.

You shoot .33 from 3 and your expected value is 1.

That's an extra point every 10 shots.

Say you shoot 60% driving the bucked, that's 1.2

So he wants them to touch paint and collapse the d, and either drive the lane or kick out to the open guys.

He wants at least 4 decent 3 PT shooters on the floor at all time.

That's how I understand it.

So you stick to that script and don't change it because of randomness.

I’ve sort of discounted LSU’s chances, but maybe there’s something to LSU playing better lately and Arkansas cooling off a bit.

Hope it’s an interesting game. Maybe 3-4 real exciting overtime sessions.

Oh, I get you. I'm not arguing for mid-range jumpers.

It does seem like I read somewhere that Oats is not against all short jumpers. He just doesn't like the ones that are out close to the 3 pt line.

I have to commend this board's commitment to the basketball Uni-thread.
We've made it to the conference finals, won the regular season, had players and coaches of the year, yet it has all been contained in just one thread.
