Speaking of gambling, we should have a bracket group with a $10 or $20 buy in. I really wanna take fever’s money

I’d be down for some kind of team board bracket challenge.

With the way JQ is playing is it a foregone conclusion JD comes in and starts Day one?
I think JQ shoots it well enough that we could start him at the 2 but then what do you do with Shack? You can’t have all 3 out there.

I think JD will play off the ball a lot, so he'll be rotating with JQ, Shack, and whoever else. He'll be playing plenty of minutes whether he technically "starts" or not.

No, but only because the "starter" designation is totally meaningless for Oats. In terms of minutes allocation I'd be stunned if JD averages less than 25 though.

Jones Earns SEC Player and Defensive Player of the Year, Oats Named Coach of the Year to Highlight Postseason Awards

Alabama's Herbert Jones was named the Southeastern Conference Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year, while Nate Oats was tabbed the league's Coach of the Year, as the league office announced the 2021 postseason awards on Tuesday.
In addition to those honors, John Petty Jr. joined Jones as All-SEC First Team honorees, while Jaden Shackelford earned All-SEC Second Team recognition. Joshua Primo became the fifth straight UA rookie to earn a spot on the league's all-freshman team, while Jones was also one of five named as an all-defensive team performer, earning the accolade for a second consecutive year.
Jones and Oats become the first Alabama duo to sweep the Player of the Year and Coach of the Year since Mark Gottfried and Erwin Dudley achieved the feat in 2002. Jones is the first Alabama player to earn the league's Defensive Player of the Year honor and is just the third player in SEC history to sweep both the Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year awards, joining Kentucky's Anthony Davis (2011-12) and Tyler Ulis (2015-16).
Both Jones (National Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year) and Oats (National Coach of the Year) are semifinalists for Naismith Trophy postseason awards, which will be announced during the Final Four on April 4, 2021.

SEC POTY being an offense only award is news to me. I always thought it went to the best all around player.

Ah yes, back in the days when it took a last second half court shot for us to break 60.
We have come a long way since then. These days if we don't break 70 we probably played like crap for most of the game.

Herbs does so much stuff that doesn’t show up in the stat sheet.
For example on Saturday when the game was still in the balance Georgia had 2 breakaways back to back for what should have been easy layups. Herb had a Chasedown block on the 1st and played GREAT defense to alter the shot on the 2nd which turned into us getting a breakaway for a layup

quote:You can, but not regularly(depends on the opponent's lineup). However, Oats has shown that he likes to sub frequently(keeps the defense fresh) so there'd probably no problem.

I think they can and will play a fair amount of JD, JQ, and Shack together. You’ve gotta have some rim protection at the 4 and/or the 5, but you also cause a lot of issues for the opposing defenses. Good luck defending those three guys if we can space the floor effectively.
Shack is playing 29.6 minutes a game. There’s no world in which that drops below 25 next season (barring injury or some freak thing). In fact, it might go up to 30 +. Quinerly is playing 24.5 now - I suspect that goes well above 25 next season.
I think we will rotate things to mostly try to have one of Primo or Ellis out there to give us a little more length*, but at least offensively I think at this point Oats clearly trusts Shack and Quinerly more (and for good reason).
*There might be times when one of those guys is thrown out there at the “4”. We have some interesting crazy fast lineup possibilities that we could run for short stretches.

I hope Primo develops more and we will have 4 great scoring guards with Quinnerly, Shack, Primo, and Davison
