They had already made a mound visit. You do another and you have to pull him. Honestly he was gassed but a better option than what was down there warming up.

Hell the pitcher should have been smart enough to know to pitch out. They are not children and have been playing a long time. The fact his solution was to shake off multiple calls from the catcher and grove it down the middle with the game on the line is a huge issue. He should know better.

Answer: bad coaching

Like the we’re afraid he was going to break one in the dirt and throw a wild pitch to put the tying run at 2nd.

Anywho — that was stressful.

Great interview there by Neal. Hope some recruits were listening to that.

he wanted those pitches elevated to the top or out of zone

That last pitch was where he wanted it and it worked like a charm when he finally hit the target!

He didn’t shake off anything from the catcher. The signs are delivered from the dugout straight to his device in his hat.

His fastball has great ride (high spin rate) and that’s his pitch. His offspeed isn’t particularly good. You don’t want to get beat throwing your off pitch. Did you see the Neal homer?

I’m sure he wasn’t trying to throw the pitch over the heart of the plate but he was likely on fumes as he was 15+ pitches past his previous longest outing.

Great win but I’m afraid from here on out we’re in for the type of games that Bama played the last two nights.

A lot of crow. Have people questioning if Vaughn knows what he is doing. This team has no business in the Supers based on talent level. Incredible coaching job.

Amazing coaching job. Hopefully St.
John’s will finish off Florida St. today. Team not only can make Omaha but make noise when they get there. Also hope the crowds will be better next weekend. Was pathetic this weekend

Did not watch much of the game but Banks pitched 3 innings of relief and walked 3 and gave up 5 hits. How did we not lose the game and only gave up 1 run.

So a brief summary of the regional.....
Bama needs to score at least 20 runs in order to not expose our bullpen.

Important part: they won.

At this juncture, winning ones you shouldn’t is part of the pursuit. Let’s see how long they can keep the charade up. Hopefully well into Omaha.

Brass balls and left the bases loaded twice.

If we don't get the late window and get more of a 3-4pm start, it should be a lot better. Getting done after 11pm in the Summer when all the kids are out of school is tough.

We all know this teams biggest problem is the bullpen, its not going to change.

you can look at the BA's top to bottom of our order and figure out that bullpen is secondary to how inconsistent our bats are

Hell, I cringe every time Torres comes up to bat because he loves looking at strike 3

The teams biggest problem is producing runs against decent pitching. If you look at the teams left in the tournament I'd wager my paycheck we are bottom 3 in team batting average.

The second biggest problem is defense. We lead the league in errors and that has reared its ugly head again in the postseason. If you are average at the plate, and have an average bullpen, your only real path to competing with high level teams is lights out defense. Make the opponent earn everything.

I don't think the shitty defense is talent issue as much as a mental issue- guys just not locking in. Torres and Hines are liabilities in the field but everybody else can play when they're locked in.

We need to start playing clean baseball to continue advancing. Not missing a fastball over the middle you're trying to bunt. Not seeing a bunt down and getting caught in a run down. Not playing at the warning track for a pinch runner with no homeruns. Not chasing ball 4 out of the zone and then watching strike 3 over the plate. There just has to be a stronger emphasis on fundamental baseball IQ type of plays. You can't take pitches off.

Being able to play situational smart baseball is an equalizer we have to utilize. We are getting a beatable opponent in the super regardless of the outcome today in Tallahassee. I'd like to see them go put on a good showing in Omaha though and look like they belong
