A great mystery of 2024...and a question DeBoer needs to take a hard look at.

Seth McLaughlin.
How does the guy we all watched last year transfer to Ohio State, become first team All-B1G, win the Rimington Award, and be on the cusp of winning a national championship? He'll play on Sundays.
Clearly the young man had not just the size, quickness, skill, and work ethic, but also the mental attitude of being willing to let himself be not just coached up, but arguably coached into being the best center in college football.
Why couldn't that have happened for him at Alabama?
I think that's one of many questions DeBoer needs to take a hard look at.

Debo had nothing to do with Seth and you should know that…

That seems like a good question to ask Nick Saban and Eric Wolford.

Meh.
Parker Brailsford is better.

How does DeBoer have anything to do with McLaughlin? He left before DeBoer was announced

Do you mean so he can learn from the previous staff's mistakes?

My only regret is that he's injured and won't be able to skip one back to Will Howard against Texas or Georgia.

Wild how two of the standout players on offense were Deboer's guys...

Seth McLaughlin.
Lived off one game in the SEC championship vs UGA.
Was adequate to bad the rest of his career as a starter.
I'm sure he improved at OSU, but going to the B1G and playing trash defenses all year outside of one or two teams doesn't mean jack shite.
Hope he heals up and has a good career, but what weird timing for this thread.

A mystery that was solved is that Ohio State absolutely buys awards. Seth was certainly not the best center in the country. I watched them twice and he had some of the same BS as last year. But I’m glad both parties are happy. I would take Parker every single time

WTF?
Maybe Deboer should also solve why some FSU guy transferred.
Seth was always a good player. He transferred because of our shite fans.

Crazy how that worked out. In fact, most of the best players were either 1st or 2nd year players out of high school or transfers from other schools. Overton, Jackson, Williams, Hubbard, Brown, etc. There were exceptions like Campbell and Lawson but really kind of telling and promising imo.

DeBoer needs to address why a player he likely never even met, much less coached, fared better at Ohio State than Alabama? What exactly is his reference point supposed to be? The program Saban was running before he was hired?

Hes an interesting case study. Sometimes a man just needs a fresh start. He was clearly dealing with something last season that were leading to bad outcomes on the field. Yes he got a LOT of fan hate...but I mean it was earned. I think even he would tell you that.
I think he would have had a great season here and the O-line would have been better with him on it. Im legitimately happy for him. You can tell his time at Alabama was meaningful to him, hence why he smoked a cigar after beating Tennessee.

Absolutely.
New York Mets fans will never believe or accept this, but Nolan Ryan would not have won 300 games, struck out 5k batters and thrown seven no-hitters if he hadn’t been traded from New York, where he was never going to reach his potential because they were done with him and he was done with them.

Congrats to Seth. Our season would not have turned out any differently if he had been here instead of Brailsford. And we got our guy for another season.
I can think of 100 things that need to be looked at more than this.
