Zero doubt about it.

Olson accepted the exact amount of money that FF was offered, but over essentially 9 years. FF would have made the same amount over 5 years. We get a player entering his prime for twice as long for the same amount of money.

Miguel Cabrera is one of the purest hitters to ever live, and his contract at the exact same point of his career as FF turned into a disaster. Athletes simply plummet after 35. Albert Pujols last contract was a disaster. FF will 100% begin to decline before any 6 year deal is over. Olson will play the entirety of his contract with Atlanta in his prime.

Olson is an elite defender, and his bat especially in Atlanta has nowhere to go but up. He got married this year, bought a house in ATL, he has financial security, lives near his hometown and family... this guy has nothing but good baseball on his mind for the next decade. He hit 39 homers in OAKLAND last year. 40+ in ATL '22

Agree with both of y'all. Longer deal for an equally talented but much younger player. Oakland is a cavern where he still hit a ton of bombs, and a left handed power hitter can thrive in Truist.

Yup - I feel very good this morning about the 2022 team and the 2023+ teams.

Eh, Dodgers, Yankees, Red Sox, etc all overpay for prime talent. That’s never going to change. They usually find a way of to pawn it off at some point.

I can't hate Freeman. I appreciate his time with the Braves, winning a World Series.
However, if there's 2 teams I've always disliked, it's the Dodgers/Yankees.
Thanks for the memories. I hope his time in LA is a failure.

If the over under for FF was set at 30HR this season playing in LA where fly balls die at night I'd definitely take the under. If he hits 22HRs this season, and Olson hits 42 its going to be hilarious

Paraphrasing a Buster Olney interview-

"6 years 160 vs 5 years 140 once you adjust for the tax situation in California... there isn't much difference. The Dodgers bailed Freeman out with the 160; nobody else was going to offer that."

Per source, $57 million of Freddie Freeman’s $162 million guarantee from the Dodgers is deferred from 2028 through 2040. Those deferments bring the value of the deal to approximately $140 million.

So he did take less to leave...

Some interesting details from Olney & Chipper on how FF’s deal went down. “ Maybe the most shocking part from Olney’s article is that Freddie’s agents, Excel Agency, gave AA an ultimatum this past Saturday telling him to choose from two proposals and gave an hour deadline.” That’s not how you deal with AA :)

Braves sign Jansen to 1-year, $16 million deal

NORTH PORT, Fla. -- A few hours after Freddie Freeman officially became a Dodger, the Braves signed former Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen.

The Braves announced they signed Jansen to a one-year, $16 million deal on Friday night. This deal further strengthens a bullpen that played a significant role in Atlanta winning last year’s World Series.

Jansen posted a 2.22 ERA while converting 38 of 43 save opportunities for the Dodgers last year. The 34-year-old reliever is a three-time All-Star. He has totaled 350 career saves.

AA's good work continues, replacing J.Chavez, C.Martin, R.Rodriguez with K.Jansen, K.Yates, C.McHugh.
He also informed W.Smith of the Jansen signing. Smith said go get him. I want another parade and ring.

Will Smith's transition from scapegoat to franchise legend has been pretty remarkable.

I am pretty damn pumped about this year’s team. Planning to see them for a weekend series in Arlington against the Rangers next month.

This bullpen is gonna be nasty. So excited.

I honestly don’t see a weakness in our team. Maybe SP? But Fried, Morton, and Anderson are all very damn good and have proven themselves multiple times in the postseason.

Maybe Outfield Defense? I am worried about that until Ronald gets back. Rosario, Duvall, and Ozuna isn’t that great IMO

We always seem to have issues with the rotation, so yeah I'd like to see something happen there. Just haven't seen a lot of development out of the top arms in our farm system the last few years. Anderson has been fantastic, and otherwise it's just a bunch of dudes riding the Atlanta to Gwinnett shuttle because they can't hang in the majors or get hurt.

The outfield defense is going to be an adventure until Ronald is back out there. They're going to have to stick him in CF too, but he's got the range for it. Instincts...not so sure. He takes a lot of inefficient routes. I think it'll be OK though. Duvall is a great corner outfielder, and Rosario is at least serviceable in LF. And hey, Drew Waters hit a bomb yesterday. Maybe he will finally figure it out. I doubt it, but you never know.
