I’m about to settle in and watch some of the Braves vs the Rays at 12 on Bally.
I am pumped about this team. Can’t wait to go to Atlanta for some weekend series.

Does Kyle Wright beat out Huascar Ynoa for the 4-5 rotation spot?
-- @coachelkins706
Let’s just start by saying Charlie Morton, Max Fried and Ian Anderson are the only three projected locks for the Opening Day rotation. With Ynoa possibly given extra time to prepare after ending last year with a sore shoulder, the top candidates for the final two rotation spots are currently Wright, Kyle Muller, Touki Toussaint and Tucker Davidson. Toussaint and Davidson both completed two innings during Monday’s 5-0 loss to the Red Sox at JetBlue Park.
My anticipation is Anthopoulos will attempt to add a starter once teams start making roster moves near the end of Spring Training. Remember his late spring addition of Aníbal Sánchez in 2018? If he can find something that valuable, the rotation might be just fine this year.
I'd like to see Ynoa and Muller take the four and five slots in the rotation. I like power arms, and those two are some dudes.

Atlanta Braves OF Ronald Acuna Jr. still rehabbing knee, won't play in any spring training games
FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Atlanta Braves outfielder Ronald Acuna Jr. won't see game action in spring training, even as a designated hitter, as it becomes increasingly likely he will miss at least the first month of the regular season.
"No. You won't see him in a spring game," manager Brian Snitker said after Atlanta's 4-0 win over Minnesota on Tuesday.
Acuna, recovering from a torn ACL in his right knee suffered midway through last season, expressed hope at the start of spring training that he would be ready for the defending World Series champion Braves' opener April 7. There had been speculation the universal DH would provide a path for Acuna's return to the lineup earlier than if he had to play in the outfield.
Instead, the Braves continue to take a cautious approach to the rehabilitation process for Acuna, the team's unquestioned biggest star after Freddie Freeman's free-agent signing with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Well,... shite

The runner on 2nd bullshite is back for 2022. If you are gonna automatically put a guy on base, put him on 1st. So at least then the team has to execute to get him hone

I agree. I hate that ghostrunner crap. Feels cheap

Yea not a fan of it for sure. 2 things:
1) wait until the 11th inning at least to do this
2) if a pitcher doesn't give up a hit/walk and the run scores, don't give him the loss. That's absurd.

The Braves had to be the worst team in the League at getting that ghost runner home. I think we might have done it twice the whole season

ROSTER MOVES
March 23: RHP Touki Toussaint and OF Drew Waters optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett
Though Toussaint will likely factor into Atlanta's pitching plans at some point this season, it appears he is now out of the battle for one of the final two rotation spots. The 25-year-old right-hander has struggled to find consistency since making his Major League debut in 2018. Waters’ stock fell last year, but the outfield prospect will return to Triple-A to prove he can still be a productive switch-hitter. -- Mark Bowman
March 21: RHPs Freddy Tarnok and Alan Rangel optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett
Tarnok is an intriguing prospect with high upside. He and Rangel both made a good impression before being optioned during the early stages of this abbreviated Spring Training. -- Mark Bowman
March 20: RHPs William Woods and Brooks Wilson optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett; RHPs Jasseel De La Cruz?, Darius Vines?, Bryce Elder and Victor Vodnik reassigned to Minor League camp
With an abbreviated Grapefruit League schedule, the Braves quickly pared down their pitching staff with this first round of cuts. Elder has made a quick rise since the Braves took him out of the University of Texas in the fifth round of the 2020 MLB Draft. -- Mark Bowman

INJURY UPDATES
RF Ronald Acuña Jr. (torn ACL)
Expected return: Possibly April
Acuña has seemingly made a full recovery from the torn right ACL he suffered last season on July 10. The young superstar has been rehabbing and taking batting practice, but he will not appear in Spring Training games.
“He’s continuing his rehab,” Braves manager Brian Snitker said. “He does exercises and hits. He’s been doing great and all that. He’s done everything I think that they’ve needed him to do.” -- CJ Haddad (Last updated: March 22)
OF Drew Waters (Right hamstring tightness)
Expected return: Day-to-day
Waters was scratched from Sunday’s lineup when he told the training staff his right hamstring was sore. Manager Brian Snitker said he thinks the young prospect was just dealing with normal soreness after playing on Friday and Saturday. -- Mark Bowman (Last updated: March 20)
RHP Charlie Morton (right fibula fracture)
Expected return: Early April
Morton wasn’t willing to guarantee he will be ready for the season, but he said he felt great after throwing a 20-pitch bullpen session on March 13. The right-hander broke his right leg when his shin was hit by a comebacker during the second inning of Game 1 of last year’s World Series. He has spent the past few weeks completing bullpen sessions and throwing a couple rounds of live batting practice. A short Spring Training might lessen the odds of him being ready for Opening Day. But even if the Braves take a cautious approach, Morton may join the rotation during April’s first half.
“Reports are really good with Charlie,” Braves manager Brian Snitker said. “But until we get him in here day in and day out, grinding and doing things, we won’t know exactly what to expect.” -- Mark Bowman (Last updated: March 13)
RHP Mike Soroka (torn right Achilles)
Expected return: Possibly July
Soroka has arrived at Spring Training with the intent of proving he can indeed return after tearing his right Achilles tendon for the second time. He suffered the original tear on Aug. 3, 2020, and the second while simply walking into the Braves' clubhouse at Truist Park on June 24, 2021. The right-hander is expected to miss at least the first three months of the upcoming season.
“I know he’s excited about getting back down here and starting this thing again,” Braves manager Brian Snitker said. “He looks good and he feels good.” -- Mark Bowman (Last updated: March 13)

Moron looked really good yesterday. Pitched 4 2/3 and didn't give up a run or a hit, just a walk and a hbp against the Rays primary starters.

Did you mean Morton? Or is this a nickname I'm unaware of?

That's definitely a championship contender. Unfortunately the Mets and Phillies spent a ton of money on free agents, and the Braves will once again be picked to finish 3rd in the division and miss the playoffs.

I find it amusing that the Phillies had an already horrific defense and their two big offseason acquisitions were Kyle Schwarber and Nick Castellanos. Like yeah the NL has the DH now, but no matter what you do 2 of them and Hoskins have to be on the field. And if you want to keep Realmuto's bat in the lineup on his days off all 3 of them have to play the field...together.

That last 2 teams with defensive WAR as bad as theirs that added 2 guys with terrible defensive WAR were 2 of the Tigers teams in the early 2010s. Their GM was..........Dave Dombrowski.

He has assembled some quality teams in his career, but I just don't understand how anyone can devalue defense to that extent in modern, analytically guided baseball. If you add 50 more runs to your lineup while also allowing another 45 to score you haven't accomplished anything.
Posted on 3/28/22 at 1:53 pm to Robot Santa
This Phillies team in 2022 is objectively horrid at almost every defensive position on the field outside of Realmuto (great, but gradually wearing down towards good) and Segura.
Posted on 3/28/22 at 1:57 pm to SummerOfGeorge
Imagine if they try to keep Realmuto's bat in the lineup on his off days. Down the lines it'll be Bohm, Schwarber, Castellanos, and Hoskins with Harper having to move from right to center where he goes from below average to fricking atrocious.

This is the organization that used the #1 pick on a guy that everyone in the industry immediately said "probably not a major league regular"
What a garbage heap
