Season 2 of Joctober will hopefully be just as great as the first.

Getting the long term deal done makes this even more of a grandslam.
Wow. Absolutely thrilled with this turn of events.
Contreras could possibly learn how to frame/receive/throw- he has big time upside with the bat.
Michael Harris is the prospect you couldn't let go from the OF prospect pool not Pache.
Maybe the 1st round RHP turns out to the Jake DeGrom, but the odds are highly against it, and Maybe Shea Lang turns into Buster Posey but again... highly unlikely.
This was a grandslam deal IMO. Olson hit 40 dingers in fricken Oakland... Wait till he plays 162 in ATL launchpad. STOKED !

Per source, #Braves gaining traction with #JocPederson. Being told it's for a 1yr deal worth $10-12M
Guess that means Eddie Rosario and Soler are gone ? Hate to not retain one of those guys.

Oh man, and David O'Brien reporting the Braves still have about $15M to spend
I think DOB is probably full of shite on that one. He hasn't had a good contact in the Braves FO since Anthopolous was hired. Olson's salary for this year is $15 million. If there's only $15 million left to spend then re-signing Freddie would have exhausted the budget. And they tried to re-sign Freddie for at least 5/$140 million ($28 million AAV), which they wouldn't have done if it would have prevented them from filling out the rest of the roster. And $2 million isn't getting you a starting outfielder or DH. I think it's probably more like $22-28 million left to spend.

The Braves payroll last year was 150 mil. Anthopoulus said that the payroll was going up, but didn't say how much.
The Braves estimated payroll right this second sits at $145. (86mil guaranteed contracts, estimated 45mil in arbitration, and add 14 for Olsen) So 15 mil makes sense is you figure Liberty Media are cheapskates. (Which they are).
However the Braves made over 100 million in profit last year. I would anticipate them to spend at least 30% of that, which would give the Braves 35 million more to spend. Several people who seem connected believe the Braves payroll will sit around 185 mil this year but i wouldn't trust Liberty to commit to that before the season. Maybe after the allstate break if we make some trades.

I’d rather have Soler or Rosario but Joctober did change the whole mindset/swagger of the team when he got here…and I think that was a huge part of us winning it all

1. Albies 2B - Yes, it hasn't worked in the past, but man... if he could get it going in the leadoff spot this lineup would go to the next level-
2. Acuna RF (Cant be allowed to lead MLB in solo HR's batting leadoff)
3. Olson 1B
4. Riley 3B
5. Ozuna DH
6. Duvall LF
7. Dansby SS
8. Travis C
9. Joc CF ?
If you add Eddie Rosario or Soler to this lineup, and move Acuna to center field, and make Joc the bat off the bench then shite gets ridiculous... thoughts

It sounds like the Braves and marlins are the two going hardest after Soler and surely we can beat the marlins.

All that makes me wonder is if we have to live through another year of Will Smith closing games or has that mercifully come to an end.
Absolute miracle the Braves won a world series with Will Smith closing games in the post season. He tried to blow it a few times but the baseball gods for whatever reason let him live.

His peripherals are elite and he can spot start when we inevitably have a musical chairs situation at the back of the rotation by mid-June.

McHugh is a setup guy, so the Will Smith Experience is here to stay for 2022.

How could anyone not see that Matzek is the clear closer arm out there ?
If I were Matz, and that goofy-AF-goober Will Smith is chosen to be the closer again this year I would request a trade. There is simply no excuse for Matz to not be the closer this season.
Edit* Matz is a potential all star caliber closer for fricks sake.

Don’t forget that Matzek walked in the winning run against the freakin Pirates last year. Guy was a total ghost for the first part of the season. Nowhere to be found. However, I tend to think his stretches of poor performance are more of an anomaly over the last 2 years. If he stays hot this year, there’s no question he needs to be pitching our highest leverage late innings.

Hopefully there’s still room to add a veteran starting pitcher. A inning eater would be nice. Not even sure who’s still available.
