ESPN Apologizes For This Civil War Graphic & Song During Colts Vs. Texans Game
© Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports
ESPN rubbed fans the wrong way during the Colts vs. Texans game when they showed this graphic of QB Andrew Luck as a Civil War officer dodging cannon balls while the song "Dixie" played...

ESPN realized maybe it wasn't the best idea, so they later issued this apology...
quote:

“Dixie” was not part of the graphic when the piece was initially produced and approved, a source told SN. Instead, the song was dropped into the piece at the last moment by a staffer in the production truck. A source said ESPN addressed the issue with the staffer, but would not elaborate on the outcome.

“It was a mistake to use this song. We regret having done so and we apologize,” said ESPN spokesman Josh Krulewitz in a statement to SN.

Funnily enough, "Dixie" was written by a Northerner, and written before the Civil War. It was a popular tune on both sides of the divide.

Dixie was Abe Lincolns favorite tune. The brainless PC crowd needs to be stopped.

I saw this yesterday and wondered why they added to Dixie to skit that already going to annoy people. The level of sensitivity in this country now is scary. There is so much whining it really hurts the real acts of racism. People are just tired of it all.

Actual Africans are hurt by the fact that Afro Americans didn't return to the motherland once freedom was given. They would have received heroes' welcome, according to my great friends in Kenya.

I heard once that Jefferson actually looked into how to send all of them back "if" slavery were to be abolished, and he calculated it to cost like $900m at that time. He decided it wasn't feasible financially.

This was a spin-off of the popular twitter account mocking Andrew Luck for looking like a civil war general. It had ZERO to do with race. It's not as if they decided to use a Civil War graphic for no apparent reason. If the outraged "afro-american" was actually watching he might have made that connection.

WTF is an "afro American"?! You're either American or you're not. Seems pretty simple to me.....

And you think you get to determine that for him? It seems pretty simple to me that an American can call themselves wherever they desire. Especially descendants of those who were not treated as Americans for centuries.

justustm2, you should head over to the “motherland” and get your heroe’s welcome like an above poster said. So yeah, tell us all about your “oppression/suppression/holding down” by Whitey.

If you have to ask the question, its obvious you can't or choose not to understand. One day you privileged MFers will understand what it means to not be so advantaged. For those who need a refresher, Dixie was not the great place whites like you perceive to non-whites. It represents slavery, Jim Crow, lynchings, segregation, 2nd class citizenship and vitriolic hate. It sort of like playing a 3rd Reich song to a crowd that included Jews and asking why they might have a problem with it. Ir you could be lake far too many and not give a damn because it doesn't affect you.

Usually it isn't even a black dude that acts all offended. It is some goofy SJW white person who gets offended on their behalf. Most black people don't get their panties in a bunch about such things.

ESPN is run by SJWs. Would never occur to them to not apologize and grovel to the handful of twitter pussies who pretend to be upset
