I repeated this myth to my girlfriend. She wasn’t very pleased and pointed out that I was wrong. She is now a condo owner and probably pays three times what I do in property taxes.

Every modern capitalist country is also moderately socialist. The issue here is anger towards the rich. That is obviously dangerous.
Our problem is the growing inequality gap that Republicans continue to try to refute. The lessons of France and Russia show us what can happen if the scales get too unbalanced. As that wealth becomes more and more represented by non-white recent immigrants the danger becomes more real.

I don’t see the Save Act passing. Holding up other legislation makes it more likely it doesn’t pass. Senators expect to outlast Trump.

I’m not in love with what the Président is doing but I’m still a Republican. I’m not voting for a Democrat so I don’t expect Dems to vote for a conservative.

We had a 72% tax braket until the 1970s then we destroyed the tax system. Has our society improved or devolved since the 1970s? We were arguably a greatest country in 1970 than we are now.
I spent the weekend in San Luis Obispo County. I walked by one bedroom one bathroom shaved that were over a $1M. SLO is worth the visit for you California haters. It is still mostly white and there are few black people there.

Russian Orthodoxy is about as merged with the state as it gets in Christianity. The Orthodox have multiple grievances with Catholicism… some are more valid than others.

Taxes are necessary evil. Look at what has been happening to civil society since Howard Jarvis’s anti-tax hysteria took over the Republican Party. It is easy to blame our societal decay on Democrats but the anti-tax movement is also to blame. Look at our cities, roads and public spaces and you can see the decline.
