Here's How Scott Frost Would Do The College Football Playoff
© Derik Hamilton-USA TODAY Sports
UCF head coach/current Nebraska head coach Scott Frost was not happy his 12-0 team is not playing for a National Championship. This is how he'd like to see College Football Playoff get fixed...
quote:

8 teams. Automatic bids to the five Power 5 conference champions. Three at-large teams. If one of the Group of 5 teams have a season like UCF did, they get one of those at-large berths
He elaborates...
quote:

“I’d love to see it go to eight (teams),” he said on SportsCenter this morning. “I think eight could include five conference champions and three at-large teams, and if one of the Group of 5 teams has a season like we had at UCF, then maybe they deserve to get in. I like any sport – and I heard Coach Saban say this – I like any sport where things are decided on the field and it’s not subjective, the champion isn’t decided by 12 people sitting in a board room.”
Thoughts?

People will say that this is sour grapes because of how the season went for frost, but this absolutely needs to happen

I blame you for this, Auburn.

Sounds better than what we have in place.

8 teams is perfect, and most people know it. 5 conference champs get in, thus preserving the value of winning your conference. Then 3 at large bids, to allow other deserving teams to get it. Quarters, semis, finals. It's perfect. 10 or 12 teams is too much and extends the playoffs an extra week. 8 is enough.

UCF had an absolute pansy schedule. There are many teams that could have gone undefeated playing UCONNs, etc. UCF might be a too 10 team, nothing else.

They had a pansy schedule and finished the season undefeated by taking down an SEC powerhouse. What's your point? It wasn't like Auburn gave them the win.

It will change to an 8 team format. Wouldnt be surpriesed if it happened this offseason

There has to be a unanimous vote for that to happen so I doubt it will go down this offseason but I hope it happens soon.

Under Coach Frost's logic, I don't think he would get in this year based off of the final rankings. You would have your 5 conference champions-Clemson, Oklahoma, Georgia, Ohio State, and USC. Then your 3 at large teams Alabama, Wisconsin, and then let the debate begin between (Auburn, Penn State, Miami, UCF, etc.) UCF had a great season and is a VERY good football team but they finished 12th in the final rankings. I would have loved to see them get into an 8 team playoff but, I don't think they would have. And a good question is, who would decide the 3 at large teams if the Power 5 champions are set?

UCF - Undefeated regular season, conference champion and ranked in top 15 would get the nod over Auburn, Penn State and Miami in my opinion.

I has been said that UCFs final ranking was a product of trying to keep them low enough to avoid conflict. 12 was way undervalued.

This is exactly what my friend suggested. I am down. I think all p5 champs should go to the playoff and represent. This would be so exciting and fun.

Been saying the same for years. I think it’s crap that the Group of 5 have no avenue to play for a national championship.

I guess Scott Frost read DawgRant circa 2007...this is not original. Of course it is common sense. BUT...it wont happen anytime soon....cause $.

8 teams could work. I mean FCS does 16. Oh that's right...the bowl bids. If they changed the bowls up to be neutral sites, they could host the games as the NCAA tournament for football. It's not really that hard. I've been saying this for years. 8 teams is a start in the right direction. But...sorry Nick..and Alabama...you'd have to win your conference. Alabama would likely get in under the "at-large" bid but conference win would be mandatory.

That's fine with Bama and us Bama fans. However, currently there is NOT a pre-requisite that you MUST win your conference. It definitely helps as something like 80plus percent of those teams that have won their conference have made the playoffs but it's not mandatory. Stop trying to hold it against Alabama. They just proved they belonged by putting the clamps on Clemson, who we all agreed was #1.

Look...all I'm saying is...Nick previously said you need to win your conference to get in...then when it benefited his team...he reversed his statements....in the political world that's called flip-flopping. I guess the great Nick Saban can do that as well as any politician.

"They just proved they belonged by putting the clamps on Clemson, who we all agreed was #1." I never thought Clemson was number one.

12 teams and let a committee decide. Conference champs often means diddly squat depending on the conference. Bama is not conference champ, not even division champ, but is natl champ and earned it on the field. 12 teams. Top four get a bye. Bottom 8 play in, then you got your 8 team playoff.

This is Auburn's fault.
