This started way before the noose episode. You can trace the decline when they revamped the points system and started The Chase and Playoffs. NASCAR, in early 2000's, were losing viewers at the end of the season if a dominant driver had racked up enough points that no one would be able to catch them during the last 10 races. They lost viewers to Football. But all the rest of the year it was a cash cow making a killing.

But NASCAR had to create some point system to hang on to viewers those last 6-8 weeks. They ended up destroying NASCAR and pissing fans off. So this decline started around 2007 or so. This is nothing new. The stands have been empty for years.

Gotta get back to their roots. Went to both races at talladega in the late 70s thru the 80s and it was elbow to elbow in the stands and had great racing. I don’t watch now as it became more about the sponsors and getting face boys rather than good drivers.

Don't know, or care, who their "stars" even are. Driving in circles only keeps someones interest for so long.

We used to regularly go to races on the late 90's and there wasn't any empty seat to be found at any of the tracks we went to. Nascar has done this to themselves with all of their "improvements" Talladega in 1997 was a bigger party than Mardi Gras!

Looks like Texas Motor Speedway is also dying.

They started caring more about their sponsors than about the fans who brought them.

To be fair it’s kind of early there. When the race started it was beginning to get dark. It’s still very bright outside there. Not saying it got much better.

Youre right it did improve. I would say it was less than 50% though.

That's why Miami/Homestead Speedway lost the NASCAR Championship Series a couple of years ago, of course—no pun intended, it went to Vegas instead.

It went to Phoenix. I was a long time ticket holder for the Homestead final. Lots of fun but you could see the excitement of NASCAR starting to wane over the years. Sad to see the lack of support at Richmond. Too many races and they are too long. NASCAR is in trouble.

Thanks for the correction! I had Vegas on my mind (I wonder why).

I don't blame them. Who wants to watch a Ford Taurus drive around in a circle for 4 hours?
