UPDATE: LSU safety Dashawn Spears is expected to remain with the Tigers after weighing his transfer options.

LSU defensive coordinator Blake Baker sent a cryptic tweet on Wednesday night to confirm the news:

LSU safety Dashawn Spears is expected to enter this name into the transfer portal, according to Matt Zenitz of CBS.

Spears, a sophomore from Denham Springs, La., played in 26 games over the past two seasons with four starts. He recorded a total of 53 tackles, three tackles for a loss, two interceptions, and one sack during his time at LSU.

We will watch because we love college football. And at the end of the day when the purple and gold line up fans are going to be fans. The portal is not all bad. It gives you a way to quickly fix problems versus multi-year rebuilds. But the complete transiency of players from year to year can take a little bit of the soul out of the game
