UPDATE: LSU safety Dashawn Spears is expected to remain with the Tigers after weighing his transfer options.

LSU defensive coordinator Blake Baker sent a cryptic tweet on Wednesday night to confirm the news:

Original:
LSU safety Dashawn Spears is expected to enter this name into the transfer portal, according to Matt Zenitz of CBS.

Spears, a sophomore from Denham Springs, La., played in 26 games over the past two seasons with four starts. He recorded a total of 53 tackles, three tackles for a loss, two interceptions, and one sack during his time at LSU.

We will watch because we love college football. And at the end of the day when the purple and gold line up fans are going to be fans. The portal is not all bad. It gives you a way to quickly fix problems versus multi-year rebuilds. But the complete transiency of players from year to year can take a little bit of the soul out of the game

The portal is a death sentence. If a coach cannot manage a roster he cannot build a program. NIL all you want, that’s manageable, when players are calling meetings with the coaches instead of the other way around you are in a death spiral. Even the NFL has set rosters and contracts. The portal is open free agency every season even within a season with no recourse.

Heard today from Saban he'd sure like the Portal Transfer to begin in May instead of January & is willing to speak to the people in charge. I sure wish that would happen. So many players don't play in bowl games so make sure they don't get injured

College football is broken. The inmates are running the asylum now.

Could you please explain that analogy?

You don’t need it explained… a bunch of young thugs chasing money and have no loyalty to the program other than dollars.

I believe is describing college football as a prison and the inmates are running it. Nothing racist like you are trying to make light of. Geezzzz

The portal is not just a mechanism where talent can freely migrate to its more appropriate school, but also a dream machine that intoxicates the ego to places of greatness. But sadly, not all dreams come true.

No problem…at this point I just expect we have to hire new players every year….

There are no inmates and no asylum. You have innocent kids being puppets for agents and family members.

These “innocent kids” are professional athletes. It’s as simple as that. More than ever, they are open to scrutiny especially since it is boosters (literally thousands of fans) paying their salary.

Just like his coach, commitment issues

He looks like a bum one play, then a future superstar the next. Hate lose a Louisiana kid with lots of potential, but if he leaves… he leaves.
