Brandon Marcello of 247Sports reports that Missouri defensive coordinator Blake Baker has emerged as an early candidate for the LSU DC opening.

Baker has been the defensive coordinator at Missouri for the past two seasons. The Tigers ranked 25th in total defense this year.

Before joining Missouri's staff, Baker was LSU's linebacker coach under Ed Orgeron in 2021.

The 41-year-old from Houston was the defensive coordinator and linebacker coach at Miami from 2019 to 2020. Before that, he was the defensive coordinator and linebacker coach at Louisiana Tech from 2015 to 2018.

LSU/Missouri: Missouri’s Blake Baker has emerged as a leading target for the LSU defensive coordinator job, sources tell 247Sports' Brandon Marcello and Matt Zenitz. Led by Baker, Missouri has gone from ranking 113th nationally in total defense in 2021 to ranking 25th this season. Baker signed a new contract at Mizzou in December that makes him one of the highest-paid assistants in the SEC. Baker, a former Tulane linebacker, previously worked at LSU as linebackers coach in 2021 and was DC at Louisiana Tech (15-18).

If he signed an extension contract in December at Missouri, is there a buyout clause and will this be a problem?

With the way he had them playing against Ohio state it would seem to me to be a really good choice. Missouri's defense was really good this past season, he looks like a hungry, young energetic coach and that's the types you want as your coaches. Geaux Tigers!!

Face it folks...none of us know shite from Shinola when it comes to evaluating coaching prospects. House looked great on paper too, remember, Honey Badger stamp of approval?

Barring hiring Kirby Smart as DC...it's gonna be like a box of chocolates...haha.

As what, a LB coach? Many of you hate the idea of being a coach's proving ground. This dude left and became a Coordinator, not a position coach at another school.

He has been a really good DC at Missouri, so, this would be a good hire imo "if" they can hire him. Can they get him from Mizzou?? That is the question.

I don't think Kelly is going to give the new DC the wholesale approval of whoever the DC suggests. Otherwise, Kelly hasn't learned from the "House" experience/experiment.

Good, solid hire that is a fantastic recruiter and a good LB coach that would help Perkins take that next step. Give me a staff of Blake Baker, Bo Davis, Corey Raymond and I would love to get Chevis Jackson on the staff as well. We wouldn’t have a problem recruiting top talent, that’s for sure.

It's not a splash hire, but if research it, the stats are pretty strong. They lost to Georgia and LSU and that's only because they were simply outscored. They also beat Ohio State in the Cotton Bowl, even tho they weren't a full strength Buckeye team, the defense was the strength of their team. There are some other good ones available if you look around, though.

Who should they hire?? Hire Rich Rod as OC, he's always been a really good OC.

Lack of superior talent and some underperforming talent was what ailed our defense this year. Add that to poor tackling and no confidence and you get a dismal showing.

Not bad but surely there are better options. What are some other rumors y’all have heard ?

Question is who at Mizzou has sand in their shoes on D? Might be interesting to watch unsigned recruits.

If he shaved his head he could pass for Matt House’s twin.
