According to Ross Dellenger of Yahoo Sports, new LSU President Wade Rousse will be elevating Verge Ausberry to the permanent athletic director position.

A formal announcement is expected in the coming days.

Ausberry, a native of New Iberia, La., is in his 24th year of employment in the LSU Athletics Department.

He previously held the title of Executive Deputy Director of Athletics and Executive Director of External Relations before he was promoted to interim AD following Scott Woodward's departure last week.

Ausberry played linebacker for LSU from 1986 to 1990 and will now lead the search for Brian Kelly's replacement in Baton Rouge.

While true, I don’t mind giving this one a shot.

A shot? He was Woodward’s Deputy? So Woodward’s no good but his Assistant is better? Instead of searching for an upgrade to the Starting QB, let’s promote the 2nd String. WHO’s NEVER BEEN AN AD! Is LSU now hiring positions of leadership to applicants who have NEVER been in this job anywhere before? Wow

It's the smart play. Two vacant positions filled. LSU stays out of the negative news cycle. Now, let's hire a coach.

Hopefully, they asked two people for approval. Jay Johnson and Kim Mulkey.

If he's such a bad hire, and I have no clue, shouldn't he have been run off decades ago?

Why?

I’ve heard really good things about him over the years and he’s had fortune of learning under several different ADs. I fully support this hire as long as he’s held to the highest of standards typical of the role.

Well, I’d assume he’ll at least have a decent working relationship already in place with existing coaches and boosters. Not sure if he’s the right choice, but the transition should be a smooth one. So, there’s that.

"god damnit"

Why do you feel it's necessary to use God's name in vain?

As long as he brings in a national champion winner from the NIL era, all will be well.

What he means is - Verge will be the permanent/acting AD as long as the FB team wins. Same goes with Frank. Title and labels don't mean anything in the SEC and LSU, only winning does.

At least the new president won't have to work too much at this decision. Sounds like this is the first hire he's ever made.

This is some of the dumbest bull shite because it is a fricking governor that is doing it for votes.
