LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier enters a pivotal stretch of the pre-draft process with the NFL Scouting Combine beginning this week, an event Nussmeier will attend as evaluators continue to sort out his draft range.

After a down season hampered by injuries, Nussmeier's postseason performance at the Senior Bowl helped steady his NFL Draft stock and set the stage for a critical opportunity to impress decision-makers through interviews, on-field workouts, and meetings with teams.

NFL Network draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah believes Nussmeier helped himself with a strong showing late in the process and projects him as a 3rd pick of a late 2nd-rounder. Per 247Sports:
quote:

"He had a really good game and a solid week down there. Definitely helped himself. With the son of a coach, he's going to do great through the interview process and from, really, the end of the season forward. It was a nice, nice rebound for him," Jeremiah said. "I think, to me, I like him as a third-round pick. I feel like that's a sweet spot for him. But we've seen in years past that guys can get elevated. Maybe there's a chance he goes in the second round."

"To me, I liked him more as a third-round player who's got a real interesting skillset in terms of the compact delivery. He can climb up in the pocket. He's real comfortable with no foot space. For a guy who's not big, who's just 6-1, sometimes those guys play small in crowds. But he's very comfortable in there. He doesn't need a lot of foot space to operate. He's really, really tough, and he's got plenty of arm."

Pretty objectively fair assessment. Good luck Nuss

Don’t mean to bash the kid and hope he’s drafted in the first round. But, I don’t agree that he is good “climbing up in the pocket”. As a matter of fact, that’s why I pulled my hair out watching him. He hardly would ever step up in the pocket to avoid pressure. And most of the time when experts refer to someone as tough they typically mean they haven’t had many injuries and are not prone to injury. Nuss is obviously prone to injury.

I do agree he has plenty of arm.

Best of luck to him.

He was excellent at climbing up the pocket when he actually had a clean pocket.

You clearly didn't watch him last season then. In fact, he had some the highest grades stats for this in the country and also avoided the rush better than almost anyone. That's what they're talking about. Hard to climb up a pocket when your guards are getting pancaked by DTs like they did this past season.

You pulled your hair out that he didn't step up into a mass of humanity to try and deliver the ball? Wow.

Hope he can find a good fit. Would love to see him go somewhere that he can develop and get an opportunity down the road.

Never liked getting hit? That’s all that happened. Dude was on the ground almost every play. He didn’t have a chance last year, remember how bad the line was?
People forget, I didn’t.

Good to see Nussmeier bouncing back after the injuries. That Senior Bowl performance really changed the narrative for him at the right time.

Remember Anthony Richardson was the #4 pick in the draft. Anything is possible.

Kelly damaged the whole offense and their confidence. I hope this kid goes on to become an All-Pro player. His junior year, he was Brett Farvre-ish and should be given the credit he deserves.

He could play behind Denver’s O-line.

Wait… he’s only 6’1”?
I thought he was 6’3” at least. Ok, doesn’t really matter.
He’s a mid-round guy. If he’s a backup in the league for a while then he proved his worth. If he’s somehow starts, that team struck gold.

"He's really really tough... but for some odd reason he limps after every single sack."

That’s a pretty glowing endorsement for him. Not sure if I agree with it completely though. Seemed like his footwork was always a bit off and not very fluid. Also fell away from a lot of throws and seemed to be a bit panicky.

Kid is not an NFL player. Will prob get drafted by the Saints.

If he goes to a system which suits him he can be effective. He has a skill set. The NFL frowns upon hitting guys who stay in the pocket, Nuss never liked getting hit. He can be a viable player

I’ll refrain from further comment….best of luck to Nuss on his future endeavors.

Maybe a 6th. Horrendous footwork that has not improved since he arrived at LSU. Great kid but his football career is winding down. Practice squad guy for a couple of years but he will be looking for a real job by his 27th birthday.

His footwork if you are looking for a QB that throws while backing up or throwing off of his back foot
