0 hard hit balls. 2 errors that went down as hits and resulted in 4 of those runs

That would be interesting. I know he was trending as a more reliable piece in the back end of the bullpen role.

New rotation for this weekend?

I’ve been away for a few days and trying to keep up. Has jay hinted who will step in for Coop? Assuming Schmidt will jump to the 2nd day starter. Will it be Cowan, Guidry? Or perhaps Johnny wholestaff for Sunday.

Bide doesn’t really have a long swing.. it’s just uphill and he pulls off and everything. Hips fly open before everything and really has no chance on anything on the back half of the plate, especially off speed. He really sells out on middle-in and/or hitting a mistake pitch, which really doesn’t come very often.
This portal class outside a couple of arms have not been good. Judging by their swings, I don’t expect any more out of them with the exception of Yorke. Dardar is an uphill, boom-or-bust swing, not very consistent. Caraway has a long swing, susceptible to any velocity or above average off speed. Yorke has the best swing and for the most part, a pretty good eye for the zone but he’s definitely had his early struggles. He’d be the only one I think could turn this around. Another disappointment has been Simpson but I don’t think he’s really had his fair share of AB’s to really tell. Interested to see if he’ll get more opportunities down the road.
Milam 6
Brown 9
Curiel 8 (Brown needs protection)
Serna DH
Pearson 5
Simpson 4
Yorke 3
Bide 2
Stanfield 7

First time through the lineup, I get it. We’ve always done that with jay as coach. But in the middle innings, and we’re still taking fastballs middle away with less than 2 strikes. We have got to hit the ball the other way.
I’ve never seen a team take so many first pitch fastballs right down the cock. I get being patient in Cjj’s offense and waiting on your pitch.. but damn.. too many fastballs being watched, especially middle away. Seems like everyone’s approach is they’re not going to swing at anything unless it’s middle in and try to pull the ball. We’ve got to change the approach and attack that middle away fastball early and drive it the other way with authority.

Let’s hope it’s nothing serious, and out of precaution.. but just reading his body language, it didn’t look good. Throwing a 89 mph fastball 51 feet is not a good sign for possible elbow. Hate it for the young man and hope to hear some good news later on.

re: New college baseball app

ESPN, which I hate saying this, probably does the best keeping the scores updated throughout the week out of all the apps. Sometimes, depending on the matchup, shows box scores too. Let me know if you find a better one because I’m all ears.
BESR switched to BBCOR, around late 2011.
It’s all based on projection and ceiling. Sure brown is stronger and more groomed at this time, but the scouts and “experts” seem to think that he’s close to his ceiling/peak, whereas Curiel isn’t even close to what his ceiling is. He’s tall, fast, lean and a lot more room to grow. With his bat to ball skills, swing, etc, will translate much better to the next level and has a lot of untapped power. Once he fills out his frame, those doubles and balls that are landing at the track and at the base of the wall are going to be 415 ft homers. He’s going to be a .290+ 30 homer guy in the MLB in a few years.
I just see too many uphill swings right now, especially with 2 strikes with less than 2 outs with runners in scoring position. Dardar is a good example, it looks like he’s swinging a 6 iron. Reminds me of the hitting philosophy called SCUM hitting (From Domingo Ayala, IYKYK). The S stands for Separate, the C stands for Collapse, the U stands for uppercut, and the M stands for Mash (or lack thereof).

Never never NEVER take him out of the 9 hole. The 9 hole is a very valuable spot in the lineup. It used to be a staple for your automatic outs like Hal Hughes and Milazzo for years but now it’s viewed as your second lead off hitter. We need him to continue to get on base to give Milam, Brown, Curiel someone to drive in when we flip it over to the top of the lineup

Honestly thought that Homer was fair too tbh
I’ve played baseball my entire life to include 4 years of juco and ncaa baseball and I’ve never quite seen anything quite to this extent. I usually can understood slumps and weekend skids.. but I can’t quite understand how we can go one game where we’re hitting 12-15 XBH/HR and then go the next 2-3 games of getting shut out going into the 7th against far inferior pitching.

It’s mind boggling.

Well the time to teach is in the off season not mid season. All you can do at this point is make adjustments, and they are just having a tough time with that right now
Long season to go boys. Let’s just trust Jay to get them ready when it really matters
