OMG major props to the writers. Not many people know this outside of Reggie Miller and Pacer fans but in 1987 there was this massive meltdown because the pacers shunned its local hero/phenom Steve Alford and took this kid named Reggie Miller who was booed when they drafted him. Reggie became the greatest Pacer to ever live. That scene in itself makes this episode a success so far. I even knew reggie went 4-6 from the field with 10 points his first game in the NBA. That scene in itself cancels out all of this queer/woke stuff
 No, not even remotely.
quote:
WOW. That was one of the worst scenes in tv history. Woke liberals will ruin everything. Why the frick would they think that was a good idea. Luckily that's all it was a moment. A 5 minute embarrassing moment out of 46 total hours. That scene alone losses a letter grade. Without that scene the episode would be just ok.
You’re trying too hard not to show your 420’s alter and it’s not working. Either way, that aside, it’s unbelievable just how bad you miss the point with this. It’s not actual run time that matters, it’s that they are changing the entire story simply because Will is gay. Being gay literally gave him super powers  It’s not just the coming out scene, it’s the fact that they feel it is extremely important to explore his sexuality at the most important part of the series. Not just explore it, but make it a focal point. It’s so dumb. Legit one of the dumbest things I’ve ever seen writers of a good show do.
quote:
The 40k trolls and bots voting it a 1 out of 10 from other countries haven't watched the show
And you were sunshine pumping it before you watched it. Same thing. It’s getting so many 1 star votes because it’s the worst episode of the show so far. Pretty simple.
quote:
One more episode to see if they land the ending. If they do people will forget about that terrible scene.
Hope they stick the landing. I’m not getting my hopes up. But people certainly aren’t forgetting that scene just like people aren’t forgetting the “I’m going to be a dad” scene. The internet has taken and run with it.

Eric Taylor (Friday Night Lights) Bob Belcher (Bob’s Burgers) Ned Stark (Game of Thrones)
Coming up with names that fit this criteria is much harder than I expected. But all of those are pretty solid. I’m not a dad, but if I was, Eric Taylor is a pretty solid example.
Two others that maybe count would be Ron Swanson (step dad) and Hopper (kind of a dad). Could name a few more but not mainstream.

Does Linda Hamilton do another topless scene? :finger crossed
I actually want to give her some props for being completely opposite from every other woman in Hollywood and actually aging gracefully and not destroying her face with plastic surgery. It’s almost shocking to see an older woman in Hollywood with wrinkles. Normally someone her age has their forehead stretched and tied to the back of their head.

Haven’t read this whole thread, sorry. But I was wondering, anyone else a little disappointed that the show has basically made Mike’s little sister the main character? Feel like they have tried to highlight too many people too late in the game.
Most on the board, not all, seem to be disappointed in this season so far. Pretty obvious dip in writing quality. Haven’t seen too many complaints about Holly’s story, it seems to be one of the highlights. But agree, too many people being highlighted which waters down the overall product.

at least will didn't give anyone BJ's or kiss anyone like Omar in the GOAT all time show the wire.
You constantly miss the point. Nobody cares if Will is gay just like nobody cares that Omar was gay/bi. If you write the character well that’s all people want. The Wire didn’t shoehorn Omar’s sexuality in as a main plot point 95% of the way into the series. Omar was a badass character, Will could have been a badass character too, they just wrote it so poorly it’s hard not to laugh at how bad it is.
quote:
because every episode in season 5 has been great except for 8 minutes in episode 7
You’re fighting hard with this but nobody is buying.
I wanted this season to be great, but at best, it has just been ok. Not even factoring in the ridiculous gayness giving powers and coming out scene. Just overall it is very hit or miss.
All of that being said, I hope they nail the landing. That will make up for a lot of bad and lazy writing we have gotten so far this season.

Okay, Ive been off work this week and been doing a lot of binging. I watched this after reading this even though I don't remember you ever mentioning this any of the times we all watched movies at your mom's house
Good times. Not sure if you ever saw me mentioned it on here that mom actually passed away a few years ago :wah:
Yea I mean I even remember thinking that I used to think this influenced The Matrix or was better than it. I mean maybe it influenced it but, yea, certainly isn’t better than it. Matrix holds up really well.

This is why I haven’t even bothered going back and finishing it. I was like holy crap this guy is comically bad.
quote:
When? This show is better than ever. I just finished episode 5 and the story is great and we are marching to a grand finale
 Stop, just stop. You’re trying too hard at this point. We get it, you like the show but it was clear before the season even aired that you were going to like it no matter what they put out.
quote:
We must be watching a different show than some of you
Seems like it. Because the majority of the people on here that don’t have blinders on pretty much agree the writing has fallen off a cliff.
quote:
The whole reintroduction of El’s sister and that new storyline is a waste. We moved on from her and that whole program story. Now bringing her back could have been interesting but her plot point being we gotta stop the government from creating more kids with powers is a waste. No one has been thinking about that for a few seasons and now that is going to be a drive force in El’s decision making going forward.
Yea I hate this part so much. All of a sudden a dumb character that no one cares or even knows about comes back and is changing the entire motive/direction.
The “It’s better to kill yourself than live in hiding” is just another on the list of bad writing decisions that are piling up this season. “No you should not want to live in obscurity with the person you love because these people will find you because don’t you see how good they are at finding you you haven’t even left Hawkins and it took them forever to realize you’re still here just imagine how easy it will be to find you if you move to a different state or country you need to kill yourself!!!!”

This thread is really weird. The fan boys are just giddy. The show has fallen off bigly
If you like the show, you are having to fight extra hard right now to act like this is good tv.
Some people thought this was one of the best shows ever and already were going to die on that hill regardless of what happened this season.
The show certainly had its really really good moments, but I’m ready for it to be over.
Finished all 3, pretty meh to bad overall.
I enjoyed EP6, it was the best of the bunch imo. EP7 was just awful. I’m honestly at a loss for words just how bad the writing has become. I knew the coming out scene was going to be bad but didn’t expect that bad.
Dustin and Steve making up salvaged it a bit at least. Glad their bickering is over and was a pretty nice heart to heart moment.
The gang coming up with a physics plan in two seconds and figuring out all this crap immediately simply because they are nerds is so dang played out. It’s been every other episode for 5 seasons now some ridiculously conplex situation arises, they think about it for a second, and then each episode someone different goes “I GOT IT!” How did they not get tired of writing the exact same scene over and over for 10 years?

Finished all of vol 2. Agreed EP6 was far and away the best of the three and EP7 was just god awful.
S4 was so good it pumped me up for this season so much but now it’s back to a show where I would for sure quit watching if there was another season.
I disagree. Will has been different. But he was different because he went through what the rest of his friends couldn’t even relate to. Being kidnapped and the upside down jacked him up. It’s no surprise he was a different kid and wasn’t interested in girls. But he has not been gay. Just because a kid is different doesn’t mean your gay. They literally had a perfect reason for him being different. But they change it 95% of the way in snd now make his sexuality a HUGE part of the story. I don’t care that he’s gay, but deciding to make it a show altering, world saving factor at this point is just all time bad writing. It’s hard to even explain how bad the coming out scene was
It has to be ChatGPT writing this. The dialogue has gotten so bad.
Yea for a second I thought Jonathan was going to have to sacrifice himself to let Nancy get away but then I was like o I guess they’re just calling it off. Plus, it’s pretty clear this season Nancy ain’t being saved by no man, she won’t even let Steve use a gun. She freaking turned into Rambo in EP7.
Max, Henry, Holly, and Steve have been very solid.
At this point I’m honestly ok if Vecna wins

I’m not anti gay like a lot of this site but holy shite the coming out scene was bad and others who are gay are calling it bad. Will’s gay. We’ve known for 3 fricking seasons. And we’re still on this shite

Was wondering if we ever would see 8 again being that was the only bad episode of the entire series. I much rather her with a shaved head. Her trashy friends hurt that episode so much
I need her to die ASAP. Chick was in one episode and they got her in here boss bitching hopper around. I need her off my screen.

Finished EP5.
I love Dustin’s line to end the episode. “It will take everything and It will take all of us with it!” Wow, so their lives are possibly in danger  Shocker.

Yea I mean I'm not tryin to say that you won't ever see a Mazda last. My niece is looking for a new car and has a Mazda with almost 200k on it. I was just stating what he said and he's certainly someone I'd trust. He said to avoid the "M's" in general, Mazda, Mercedes, and Mitsubishi.
