The slow deliberate 'up the middle' worked against Auburn, but not against Tennessee. Z. White had 22 runs for 50 yards (2.3 ave.). Not good. Monkin needs to ADJUST when his plan is not working.

It’s hard to tell how much of that is on Zeus or the O line or on Pruitt having a good game plan.

It looked like our line just wasn’t getting off the ball and getting the same push as they did against AU.

Now go look at Kendall Milton and Kenny McIntosh stats. We almost had 200 yards rushing(193 because of the bad snap).

To me, it appeared UT keyed on Zeus being in the game as run only. We didn’t use him much in the passing game to keep them honest. If we’re going to rotate, we have to make sure everyone gets used in all aspects of the game.

That would explain it.

Plus damn he needs to keep his head up and eyes open. Seemed like he could’ve bounced outside a number of times. However when you watch how quickly these holes open and close it’s hard to fault him for it unless you know what the play is and what he sees.

KMac though was the star IMO out of the RBs. He runs hard and seems to find the crease.

Looked like Cleveland and McClendon were getting their asses whipped and it seemed nobody could block Tua-Tua ...yet we continued to attack that side on 1st down. Zeus had nowhere to go.

All those up the middle runs may not be pretty and may frustrate fans but there’s probably a rational explanation eg use clock, wear down the defense, keep the defense honest etc.

He uses the middle of the field in the passing game really well. I have liked his use of tempo a lot.

Maybe I'm just comparing it to the last 3 years under Fromm but I feel like we use the middle quite a lot.

Yep,we rarely attacked the middle
of the field with Chaney and Coley or used the TE's like we should have.

Probably the main reason Fromm threw so few INT's

I loved that reverse play. The only thing I didn't like about it is that it was something he should have called on 4th down when we ran the ill fated sneak with a 5'10 QB.

Or just a bootleg on either of the 4th down misses.

Glad we finally used it with a pass later.

Freakin Chaney or Coley NEVER ran
it in short yardage.

Those are pretty much a Georgia tradition - we have to do that every game.

I only had one complaint in the play calling last night ... the 3rd and 8 draw play.

IMO, I dont think Z White is a very good RB. He gets extra yards after contact but he's not elusive, not very fast and doesn't seem to have good vision. One play sticks in my mind to illustrate my point ... he had a hole up the middle with one LB to beat at the 2nd level. A simple cut back to the left and he could have easily gained another 5-10 yards. Instead he just ran straight into the LB. Once again, my opinion but he looks to be our 3rd best RB behind McIntosh and Milton. Milton looked great last night. Once again, all just my opinion.

Don’t think for one minute it was Monken’s idea to go conservative in 3rd quarter.

That's just it. Everybody, I assume, is hoping that Kirby stays out of the offense. Yesterday's 3rd quarter tells me different. But hey, he is the head coach.

With no spring to install his system and having to adjust his offensive playcalling to mesh with CKS philosophy I think hes doing well and getting better by the week.

Even as herp derp as we looked early in the game last night against the best D we've played so far we managed to adjust to what ut was doing. We threw effectively over the middle and used our talent advantage to wear them down.

We had 4 players rush for 40+ and another for 25+.

9 players caught our 16 receptions, 2 RB's, 2 TE's and even had a DL score a TD on a reception.

If you're gonna playcall for Smart you're gonna hafta keep pounding the ball and mix in the pass.

I think Monken has done well.

CKS emphasizes a complimentary game where the offense and defense work together. There is no way for us to play that kind of football without input from someone other than the OC.

If we want to enjoy the stifling nature of our defense, we need to keep them off the field so they can stay rested. The reason why other conferences have not enjoyed the defensive strengths that the SEC has is because of those high-octane offenses that score fast, bust fast, and keep the defense on the field to get tired faster. In order for us to avoid the tired defense, we need sustained drives where we manage the clock. Running like we do helps that.

I doubt CKS is actually calling plays but he is probably telling Monken to do so with an emphasis on balance and clock management as well as wearing down the other team. As frustrating as it feels at times, it seems to work for us as the games get blown wide open later in the game when the opponent’s defense withers.

If we abandon the run, we are going to be turning the ball over just like all of our opponents. Just like all of those teams playing basketball on grass.

We need balance to not shoot ourselves and our defense in the foot.
