Maybe not. Louisiana's fiscal problems are legion and they may not be able to raise the money needed to keep him.

The school has $$ issues for sure but you best believe LSU isn’t letting someone walk without a competitive offer. shite, Aranda makes more that a lot of head coaches

The Aranda contract is an albatross around O's neck in terms of paying position coaches more cash though.

Just heard the same thing. Interviews are not complete and once done, thats when Kirby will decide and make the offer to whomever he wants at the position. So it seems that everyone is waiting on the interviewing to conclude. We should know something this week (I hope).

Reckon that’s true, I just can’t imagine LSU not matching anything he’s offered short of him being given a DC title

LSU hires a safeties coach and took some of Raymond’s on field duties away. He was reportedly unhappy with that.

I’m not super well versed, but I beleive that decision was made by Aranda and that the safeties coach is his guy.

They kind of have to do whatever Aranda wants since they pay him thirty seven billion dollars per year.

Wish Dawgs were in the mix for both Raymond and Ansley - would be happy w/ either.

My guess is the DC or Co-DC is off the table which gives Kirby less leverage. Methinks Lanning and Schumann will be Co-DCs.

Still, gotta believe we can pay more than anyone else. Even raising all of our assistants, Kirby should have a lot of room w/ $2.5mm off the books with Mel/Chaney both gone.

With interviews not being finished, we don't know what we don't know - no offers having been made.

And what's up with Kirby and all this Co- shite?

Tryouts for who gets to keep the job after a season or two?

More people to share the blame if things go pear-shaped?

Well, this is what it’s looking like. I take it you don’t think he’s qualified?

He may be a prodigy, but he doesn't have the resume at all. That's just a fact.

At this point its getting laughable we haven't made a hire.

I mean Kirby will always be the heart of the defense so its no so much a problem as it is just annoying.

Name a damn DC/DB coach so we can enjoy the offseason lol

Don't rush the process. I have faith in Kirby to get us who we need to get. Who knows maybe there waiting on the rest of the NFL games to be played.

HAVE SOME FAITH. Kirby has a plan. He just needs more money. Then we can find a DC in Tahiti.

It is a bit silly that we still don't have anyone. It's been 6 weeks. You would have thought that if we were promoting from within, Smart would have already announced it.

It’s by this reasoning and this alone that I don’t think he WANTS to make an internal hire. I mean look how quickly Coley was named after Chandy left. If it were in interior guy why wouldn’t that have been any different. Keep the faith boys, and dawgirl.

I read somewhere that someone should be named no later than Thursday.

I believe it's totally logical why Kirby waited to name the OC (wasn't done right away!) and the DC.

When you believe you have your OC and DC already on the staff, it creates less urgency. You leave the position unfilled so you can explore other avenues just to see what's out there and what positions others might consider.

With the OC, Coley was already "Co-OC" and bringing in someone from outside to be OC would have meant a demotion for Coley - which further would have probably caused a chain reaction of Coley leaving UGA. Kirby had no real desire to lose Coley's recruiting for sure. Was he the right hire to be the sole OC and playcaller? very debateable but it all makes sense - checked w/ Gran and Enos but never offered either. I think Enos wanted to bring in his own staff. Think about it for a minute - if you bring in an outside OC, they are going to want to hire their own staff - that was never gonna happen.

As to the DC, while Tucker was a huge loss, the fact that Kirby is an an DC as well created less urgency to fill the position. Further, it has long been thought that Schumann, and now apparently Lanning, were due a promotion. So your question, "Why not already promote them?" - because leaving it open allows you to speak w/ some guys that might not take the call otherwise - Raymond(already interviewed) and Derrick Ansley (who we may not even interview).

Someone remind me - Has Ansley given a definite "no?" I agree with some that he may be waiting until the NFL finishes up the season and this would make sense if it were possibly Ansley.
