"LSU cornerbacks coach Corey Raymond was mentioned in various reports regarding the Ohio State defensive backs coaching search last week, although he never spoke with anyone from the Buckeye's regarding the position.

Well, this time there is substance to back it up, as multiple sources confirm that Corey Raymond is expected to arrive in Athens on Saturday to interview for the defensive backs coach vacancy under head coach Kirby Smart.

Raymond's interview was preceded by former Ole Miss defensive coordinator Wesley McGriff, who interviewed for the position earlier in the week.

Raymond will be entering the final year of his contract as LSU's defensive backs coach, where he has been a fixture on the LSU staff since 2012, establishing himself as one of the nation's premier position coaches.

The Georgia staff is expected to meet with Raymond Saturday evening and again on Sunday, as they make their push for the nation's premier defensive backs recruiter and coach."

LSU fans are in a tizzy over it, claiming LSU will give him a pay bump and he’ll be back in Baton Rouge next year, so that says all you need to know.

They want to keep him.

Now that you guys gave me a little info on him I believe I know who he is. So many coaches out there, its hard to keep up with them all. Thanks gentlemen.

They are probably corect. I think raymond is an lsu alumnus. It would be a hell of a job for CKS to pull him away from BR.

It would be a grand slam. About as a good a DB coach hire as you could find.

Makes me curious on our plans for the DC, but landing Raymond would be nothing other than outstanding

If he is an LSU Alum, it would be difficult to grab him up but money talks, Reps.

I wonder if it is for more than just DB coach.

Why would u be hiring pos coaches when you havent named DC.

Tidbits from their board, Aranda hired a Safeties coach so perhaps Raymond felt slighted. He's also LSU's #1 recruiter ranked by 247. He makes $450k and contract expires this month. He is currently the highest paid db coach in nation.

LSU native and alum. Still, it's all about the opportunity. We've got just a bit more talent in the Defensive Backfield than LSU currently, and UGA is a slightly higher profile school. Lets make him an offer he can't refuse. Also, Kirby is the real DC. He wants an excellent position coach and great recruiter for an asst DC position. Sounds like Raymond to me.

Not for nothing. . . With not much in the way of DB prospects for next year and not much elite DB talent in the state for 2020, bringing him along would make a huge difference. He immediately puts in play for UGA 3 of the top 10 DBs in the class.

I just don't see lsu letting him leave ...of course I'm jaded by all the luck we have had with the OC hire.

If we get him it will be huge

Would they make him DC?

So if it came to Raymond and Ansley, which would you think Kirby would choose?

Notes-

Tucker was a DL coach when Kirby hired him for DC.

Pruitt was a db coach when Jimbo hired him for DC.

There is plenty of precedent for this. In fact it makes more sense that he's interviewing for DC. If it were just pos coach, without a DC named, it makes less sense.

So if we are able to land raymond, i would like to see him bring maurice hampton with him. The highly rated cb prospect has yet to sign his loi with LSU.

Factor in that the defense will be Kirby's regardless, it becomes more likely that he feels comfortable giving a position coach his first break as a DC.

As DC? Ansley bc of his resume. But other sites are saying that Raymond is interviewing for the DB position. I would be mildly surprised if were looking at him for DC.

The other thing to think about is most cordinators who are good at their job aren't cordinators for long. They take hc jobs. I would rather roll the dice and promote an elite position coach than hore a decent retread
