So the only way to measure a successful season for UGA is a playoff birth? Or the season is a failure? Every year?

For this particular roster, absolutely.

So should Dabo have been fired? Before year 7 when he made the jump from “very good” to great and accomplished what Kirby did in year 2.

I think Dabo would have been fired after the 2011 season but they showed remarkable improvement and won the ACC that year. He was on a very, very hot seat, IIRC.

Oh he for sure would’ve here. But I’m more talking the 2011-2015 period where they went 10-4, 11-2, 11-2, 10-3, then 14-1 losing an NC.

We are kind of in that vein right now. We have “Clemsoned” each of the last two SECCG.

If Jake stays I don’t think we change much about the offense, because we don’t have the QB to do so. If it fails to produce next year we will have to change at QB anyway and would make sense to change at OC.

Vince Dooley would have been fired well before he ever won a national title in this day and age.

You are right for the wrong reason. I was around for the Dooley era. After Butts essentially quit coaching and the Griffith disaster, Dooley was a welcome relief, but he was not the god people have made him out to be. He just about killed HW. With a halfway decent offense he could have won three NCs with Walker. Instead he ran him into the ground. Look at Belue and Lastinger’s stats. Look at the number of carries. I lived through some miserable 6-5, 7-4, 5-6 seasons. I was too young to be in the know, but I would be surprised if Dooley wasn’t on the hot seat after the 79 homecoming debacle.

“If we had really good wideouts, we're more explosive.”
-Kirby Smart

Why couldn’t he say if we had a really good Qb we’d be more explosive? Or really good OC and we’d be more explosive?

Strange, isn't it? He's ok with shitting on the entire WR core but never says a word about Jake. Probably because he knows he chased off the better QB and has to cover his arse.

Kirby essentially blamed everything on the WRs. He did take responsibility for the poor depth we have at WR but that’s about it. He defends Fromm, Coley, and the philosophy, but will shite on his defense and WRs. Why?

That isnt an answer to my question.

Who is making excuses?
What do you call an excuse?

Kirby isnt excusing this season on the WRs. He was referencing something very specific (that we could run different offenses/plays on Saturday with better production from WR).

Maybe. But seems like there was a lot of good will left over from 75-76 and the 78 'wonderdog' team.

I agree with a lot of what you said otherwise. Even with HW we could not compete with the balanced offenses of Pitt and Penn St. Kinda like now, if you stopped Herschel we had no plan B.

If everyone stepped up an played to their potential then we had a chance. If we score a few times our defense could’ve ridden that momentum and it’s a different game.

When receivers started dropping balls you could see the confidence start disappearing....and when Burrow makes positive yardage after catching his own pass off a defenders head ...we all knew this was going downhill fast.

But he is so remedial at the other aspects of coaching that he can’t be considered a top 5 overall coach.

But he flat out said after the game that the scheme wasnt the problem and that it was about the talent at wide receiver.

Kirby recruited every WR on our team. But he doesn't even realize that his comment said more about him than about the WRs.

He also recruited the 2 Wideouts who left
early and are now in the NFL.Other wideouts he signed (Blount,Bush)pretty much missed the entire year with injuries
another (Holloman) was kicked off the team
and you know what happened with Pickens,Blaylock and Cage.We were down to two 3 star guys another that missed 2/3 of the season (Jackson) and another who had hamstring issues all yeat (DR) Don't know
how you can hold him accountable for all those injuries. If you want to blame em for
character issues (Pickens/Holloman) that's fine but I don't think any SEC team had more attrition at one posistion than we did with our wideouts.

BTW I don't think any other SEC kicks off Holloman for what he did.Kirby was way too rash with his decision.I got a feeling that Mcgarity was pulling the strings on that one

Exactly. Kirby went “all in” with jake, just like foo did, so he has no choice but to downplay his mistake.

How many dropped balls were there in that game? I lost track. Fromm looks like a guy that has lost all of his confidence in making a throw. I guess guys dropping balls can do that to you.

Do any of you remember the pitcher for the Braves, years ago, that had a tremendous fastball but "lost it?" He got so that he could not find the strike zone and that was the end of his career. Wohlers was his name.

Kirby is a strong recruiter and an energetic cheerleader. As a coach he pretty much sucks.

43-12
3 straight SEC East Champs (never been done before)
1 playoff birth (potentially 2 more)
National Championship appearance (our 1st since 1982)
Top 5 defense this year
13-4 against UT/UF/AUB/GT

But you're right, he sucks.

He definitely has said Jake has to play better. But yea, he can’t exactly say he made a mistake by keeping the wrong guy. That’s the worst thing he can say. We just have to accept it and move on.
