Remedial how? This team was playing in overtime in the national championship 2 years ago. We were close to playoff births last year and this year. Do you know how hard that is playing in the SEC? The results are there. Of course we are disappointed that we took a step back this year. But I’m not ready to call him stubborn yet. If we come out with the same philosophy on offense next year, then ok.

Completely agree. But College football in the last two years has changed so much with offensive philosophy and its even moving up into the NFL as well. Kirby needs to jump aboard and embrace the offensive change. But he flat out said after the game that the scheme wasnt the problem and that it was about the talent at wide receiver.

His comments after the game were completely obtuse, clueless, and frankly embarrassing to fans and alumni.
The problems and limitations of this team exist primarily on our sideline. We have great talent all over the place, but are very mediocre at the coaching positions that matter most.

I agree the scheme has to change and I’m hopeful that it will. But from an objective perspective, this team was playing for championships in the past couple of years with pretty much the same offensive philosophy. Of course now we know that it’s not good enough.

idk, i don't mind sticking with the Pro-style. I just want more creativity.
It's all cyclical. If everyone is going to a spread based offense, which it is trending that way, I think there is value staying the course for a pro-style approach. It is hard for teams to recruit defensively for both types of offense.
But just because its a pro-style doenst mean it has to be run up the middles and basic arse route combos. There has to be a young guy that can take what Shanahan and McVay are doing in the NFL and transfer that to college. The 49ers running schemes are next level. Maybe I'm being ignorant in regards to that transferring to college players consistently, but I'm still not in favor of going to the spread offense.

If he doesn’t overhaul his offensive staff and philosophy this year, then he will never change, and 2017 will be the peak of his success.
The last two years Kirby had a LOT of success with this offensive mindset. Almost winning the natty in 2017 and damn near winning the SECCG in 2018. Until this year he had no reason to believe this wouldn't continue to work...and you can't really do anything mid season.
We don't know what the reason was for this year's substandard performance but I'm pretty sure the coaches know better than we do. I'm willing to give them the chance to fix it...although i am concerned as it seems like the whole coaching staff may turn over before we're finished.

I swear I’m as disappointed about our lack of consistent offensive production as anyone but damn it I’m tired of people acting like we just went 6-6.
You either make the playoff or you don't. There was a time when beating your rivals and making the Citrus Bowl was a successful season. That time no longer exists. This season was a failure.

I think that this off-season could have a big impact on whether Kirby’s tenure is a success or if it fails. He’s at a crossroads; the new coach smell has worn off and the excitement of a new up-and-comer has worn off. He has to prove to recruits that he can win the big one, now.
I think everyone knows my feelings on Coley, so I’m not going to bring that up, but it’s time for Kirby to fix his offense. If Kirby rolls or if he tabs someone else, 28 ppg against power 5 teams (which is skewed by the Monkey-fricking we handed Tech) ain’t gonna cut it when you run into a good offense. Match a competent offense with this season’s defense and I think we’re the odds on favorite to win the title. Hopefully Kirby won’t play it safe anymore.

After next year there will be 0 excuses. Every single player will have been chosen by him on next years roster. This will be his first year with 100% Kirby guys.

What does that mean. Seriously. Please be specific.

So the only way to measure a successful season for UGA is a playoff birth? Or the season is a failure? Every year?
Should Kirby get fired if we don't?
Did you really expect us to beat LSU with Swift getting 2 carries and Cager and Pickens out followed by Blaylock?
You think LSU makes the playoffs in '20?

Why is Kirby here? Specifically?
Everything will be setup exactly as Kirby Smart wanted it. We already had most of that but now 100% of the players will be his guys. There will be absolutely no excuses for having glaring deficiencies. If there are any then there’s no one to blame but him.
When he came to Georgia I said I’d give him until his 5th year before I began being critical. It’s time to put up or shut up.

Who is making excuses this year?
Who was making excuses in 2018?
Why do you think people are making excuses? What do you consider an excuse?

its embarrassing how much he stands behind his incompetent OC.

You're right. He's better off throwing his wide receivers under the bus.

College football in this day and age is a zero sum game. Vince Dooley would have been fired well before he ever won a national title in this day and age. It’s just the nature of the beast.

quote:See how that's a bad look? He can come out and say he didn't mean it that way, that he meant he needed to recruit more depth every year so there isn't 95% of your production leaving in one year.

When you shite on your coach, you can't unshit on your coach.

Kirby essentially blamed everything on the WRs. He did take responsibility for the poor depth we have at WR but that’s about it. He defends Fromm, Coley, and the philosophy, but will shite on his defense and WRs. Why?

I’m fine with him leaving his shite on Coley.
But seriously.....he’s better off just keeping his mouth shut about Coley and Fromm rather than defending them.

So should Dabo have been fired? Before year 7 when he made the jump from “very good” to great and accomplished what Kirby did in year 2.
