Kirby Smart is one game short of finishing year 4 of his first HC gig. He’s 43. He’s not shown himself to be unwilling to change, unable to change or incapable of understanding the need for change. We are coming to the end of his first class of players. They’ve been very, very good. We need change on offense in some way but why does everyone assume we won’t get it? Kirby is our guy, through and through. Where is the faith that he will grow and adjust like everyone else does during their life and in their job?

His long time friend is OC, who he has worked with for years. It doesn’t look good. Best possibility is to fire Hankton, move Coley to Receivers, and hire a Co-OC/QB Coach.

If he doesn’t overhaul his offensive staff and philosophy this year, then he will never change, and 2017 will be the peak of his success.

I swear I’m as disappointed about our lack of consistent offensive production as anyone but damn it I’m tired of people acting like we just went 6-6.

Agreed. There might be some merit to outsiders' opinions that we got uber-spoiled in record time, with little tangible to show for it.

What evidence is there of this? If a coach doesn’t toss everything that’s worked well after one down year filled with injuries and young players, he never will? This is just stupid. Year 4. This sounds like it’s year 8 of Smart.

If we don't make changes on offense, 6-6 will be the new status quo, then where will we be?

Or. We will have to make some changes (did just lose our OL coach, top RB, possibly QB, maybe others) and we will win 10/11/12 games a year until it all comes together. We haven’t gone 6-6 and there is literally no reason to think we will.

Kirby seems like a tireless worker and he's an excellent recruiter. Our defense was lights out this year, and I don't have reason to believe we'll be anything less than that next year.

Having said that, Kirby is a defensive coach. He needs to hire a proven OC and supporting offensive staff that will develop the players and drive home the importance of fundamentals.

There is no excuse for receivers not knowing where they're supposed to be, running poor routes, and dropping the ball consistently. Also, there's no excuse for the regression of Jake Fromm this season. Yes, his receivers are young and all that jazz, but his post snap reads seemed a bit flawed, he doesn't seem to be very good at going through his progressions, and he's overthrowing receivers consistently.

I believe that Kirby will right the ship, but there is really no excuse for the offense that trotted out onto the field this year. If the average Joe can see the flaws in our offense, how did our coaches not see them or allow the subpar performances to continue each week?

Not sure how you can say this. To be fair we are only 4 years in, so we haven't really seen whether he is willing OR unwilling to change. When he came in he was very up front about the style of play he wanted to run. That was evident throughout the entire 2016 season when we ran the exact same offense we do today despite it obviously not working very well. We've run the exact same offense all 4 years, despite evidence showing that it isn't super effective. This goes for multiple OCs, but still the same overall style kirby wants. He has alrso repeeatedly, over and over, talked about how WRs first must prove their blockign skills before they can see the field. I think at this point there's far more evidence of him being unwilling rather than willing.

This is a breaking point thouugh. Anyone with eyeballs can see our offense is a problem beyond just "well if the receivers would catch the ball...". If we keep coley and don't change a lick from now until next year that will be a pretty damning situation for kirby.

I don’t think he is willing to change because I don’t think he sees his approach to offense as the issue. He will have an OC who will do it the way he wants or he won’t have him at all.

Get ready for 9-3 being the ceiling next year. We will lose 3 regular season. Next year will be tougher sledding for fans than this year.

Agree, have no idea why they think he's completely tone deaf.

Believe me.He hears and sees what's going on in CFB these days but you have to be able to execute ANY offensivephilosophy you choose to implement.

It took Lane Effin Kiffin to change Saban's mindset that his offense was designed not to lose games. Kiffin did what he wanted to do on offense and ignored Nick for the most part.

For UGA to take the next step, Kirby will have to find his own Lane Kiffin. How quickly does he realize that is the $64K question.

Kirby was a Godsend to our program and remains that way. It may take a while, but he will get us to a NCG. There will probably never be another Saban (at least in the SEC), and he should not be held to that standard.

Are you serious? This dude is so stubborn and its embarrassing how much he stands behind his incompetent OC. What's even more embarrassing is how much he threw his Wide Receivers under the bus in his press conference and put absolutely no blame on Fromm.

He will get caught with his pants down. LSU, Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State, Oklahoma are all using the new Iphone 11 and kirby is using a brick from the 90's.

Ken Briles, Tony Elliott, Dan Enos, Rich Rod, Mike Yurcich, Mike Bobo, Will Hall (Longshot). Literally so many names are way more attractive than a James Coley. Clearly something needs to change and we will spin our wheels with Coley.

Kirby is a top 5 coach right now. The results and the recruiting speak for themselves. No one could have foreseen such a huge falloff for Fromm. Even Vegas had us as the favorite to win the natty this year.

With that being said, the offense has to change. And you can’t call Kirby “stubborn” just yet. Let’s see what actually changes first.

Kirby is a top 3 recruiter.

Recruiting is a huge part of being a college coach, maybe the biggest.

But he is so remedial at the other aspects of coaching that he can’t be considered a top 5 overall coach.
