Win or lose this Saturday, Gunner showed poise in an extremely hostile environment and high-pressure situation, and the team showed tremendous resiliency.
These intangible things seem to be kind of thing Smart is going for during this volatile NIL era.

2nd this and will add that it's true of many things & not just football. There are thousands of students studying to be doctors, nurses etc. that will shite their pants and drop out the second they have to stick a needle in a patient, for example.
They're still on the team obviously, but looked like they needed a LOT more practice before seeing another game

Kirby can say it’s just another game until he’s blue in the face but if there is truth in the fear that the team was sensing his anxiety vs Bama in the previous matchups I hope he’s put that crap to bed this week. This team has to be calm and collected, know their assignments and execute well, especially OL.
Crowd has to do their job to rattle Ty Simpson and the Bama OL. A little Between the Hedges nerves could be the difference between those 50/50 balls Tennessee hit to be INTs or knockdowns this Saturday or a busted protection that leads to a strip sack of Simpson.

Totally agree, I am really down on the right side of the line.
Not sure why we are going with Greene for this one to start the game. We need Hughley since he showed the most promise and is not injured.

Totally off subject but many, many years ago the first thing they would do to a medical or nursing student was put them in a real code to see how they reacted. If they couldn't cut it they were highly encouraged to seek another profession. I remember my first like it was yesterday. Cardiac arrest. The soon-to-be deceased began projectile vomiting and literally covered me. I just kept doing chest compressions as it was still better than a South Georgia tobacco field in July. Guess I passed muster. Never looked back. You couldn't get away with that these days.

Yep. Been there, done that.

I think as long as Kirby is coach, there will be frustration with this facet as he puts more $$$ on stopping the run, controlling the pocket and letting the athletes in the secondary make the QB make hard throws.
Some people get mad when I say this, but I need to point out that I am not the coach and am just reporting what he does.

This makes a lot of sense and explains every single one of the games where the defense has gotten torched in the Kirby era. When the opponent has better athletes at WR than we do at CB, this strategy doesn't work.
2017 Oklahoma: Hollywood Brown, CeeDee Lamb, Mark Andrews
2019 LSU: Chase and Jefferson
2020 Florida: Kyle Pitts and Kadarius Toney
2020 Alabama: Smith and Waddle
2021 Alabama: Williams and Metchie
2022 Ohio State: Harrison and Egbuka
2024 Alabama: Ryan Williams and Germie Bernard
2025 Tennessee: Chris Brazzell
Add a mobile QB to the mix (which all of these teams besides 2020 Florida and 2020 Alabama had) and it compounds the problem.
Unfortunately, Alabama still has Williams and Bernard, so I expect them to score a lot of points.

One very important thing to note though about the above is the level of QB.
17 OU- Heisman finalist
19 LSU- Heisman finalist
20 UF- Heisman finalist
20 Bama- Heisman finalist
21 Bama - Heisman finalist
22 OSU- Heisman finalist
All of those teams not only had otherwordly receiving talent, btu they had elite/phenomenal QBs as well. The exception to this was last year alabama, but milroe just had our number as some players tend to do. Game was on the road at night. Tennesse thsi year Aguilar isn't a Heisman finalist (probably), but honestly I thought our guys were in damn good position most of the game outside the first drive, we just got beat on some 50/50 jump balls in a tough atmosphere.
And that's another thing. There are 8 games listed above...notice a common theme? Every.single.one of those 8 games were away from Athens.
Despite bama having elite WR play again this year, they don't have the level of QB those other teams did and the game will be at home. I like our odds.

That's the point though. They had a guy (Brazzell) who was a better athlete than any of the guys covering him.

If he has time to throw, he is plenty accurate enough to get it to his WRs, who are better athletes than the guys covering them. If their offense is constantly ahead of the chains, it doesn't matter where the game is being played. The defense has to create negative plays on early downs in order for the crowd to be a major factor.
I think it'll take >31 points to win this game.

I happily surprised to see you have grown to the point you can use the letter "K" in a word other than kancer. Baby steps, but progress is progress. Keep it up.

Not making excuses, buuuuuuut he got a heck of a push-off on that long TD and on at least 2 of the long bombs our defenders weren't beat. They were both in good position and had plenty of time to get their head around and make a play on the ball. They just never did and panicked when the receiver put his arms us to catch the ball. At least that's how I perceived it. Hopefully that has been pointed out to them.

South Georgia tobacco field in July.
It was a few decades back but I know all about it.
A lot of country boys went to college because of that experience.

Tickets were around the same price for the Tennessee game when Tennessee was number 1 for 4 days, and our crowd was incredible in that game.
I was in the 130s with the old timers with the old season tickets, and my section was standing and getting loud everytime Tennessee was on offense.

The scheme actually is in place to limit QB runs from pocket. The point is to hold gap and push back and close pocket vs run around/through blockers. When done right it affects passing lanes and makes the QB make a throw on time as eventually the pocket will collapse.
They do not run this every play, but it appears it is something he likes them to do. They do run stunts and blitzes still. It’s just not every other play. It puts a lot on the DBs for sure.

When Kirby tries to sack the QB, he usually does.....

They'll have 2 weeks to watch film and practice to correct their mistakes. if they don't then we can expect 3 or more losses.
