PS To the poster above who mentioned Ed Thilenius. He was the play by play announcer before Munson and not his color guy.
Thanks for clearing that up. I asked Chatgpt and it was wrong. I asked it again and just said Scott Howard and that Loran Smith was his main on-air partner. I think in the 80's it was just Larry in the booth and he would frequently call down to Loran on the field; "Loran what ya got?"

Granted, there were times that Munson failed in that task. "Lindsay Scott! Lindsay Scott! Lindsay Scott! Lindsay Scott!" may be iconic in Dawg history, but if you weren't watching that game along with him, you might not have had any idea as to what was going on. Did he get tackled? Did he fall down? Did he keep going through the endzone and ran to the nearest grocery store for bread?
In no way did Munson fail. That was the beauty of his broadcast. You know he lived and died with the Dawgs just like all of us. Some of his most iconic calls didn’t mention what happened until well after. But it didn’t matter. We all knew what happened.
For instance:
“Lindsay Scott! Lindsay Scott! Lindsay Scott!
“Watch it! Watch it! Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Yeah”
“Gonna try to kick it sixty yards…plus a foot and a half.. BUTLER KICKED A LONG ONE (voice intensifying) OH MY GOD! OH MY GOD!”
“We hand it off to Herschel. There’s a hole! 5! 10-12! He’s running over people! Oh you Herschel Walker! My godalmighty he ran right through two men! Herschel ran right over two men they had him dead away inside the nine! Herschel Walker went 16 yards! He drove right over orange shirts just driving and running with those big thighs! My God a Freshman!”
Just to name a few.

Scott Howard was run off because of the Bobo Effect — Georgia fans falling into groupthink instead of forming their own opinions. He did suck because he was a homer, but the new guy is ten times worse. fricking A.

Munson was great when things were good, but was basically Jim Jones handing out koolaide to listeners when things weren't going to plan.

Scott is one of the best as basketball and worst at football.
I liked Josh Brock. He was a good color commentator and he also was southern. Jon Stinchcomb will just sound like a generic corporate dorwkad.

Munson is revered because of calling numerous pivotal moments in UGA lore, but otherwise, he was no better than Scott Howard.
I want to hear formations, down and distance, time, etc, and neither did any of that.

This has to be the most egregiously incorrect post I've seen here. Obviously you have never heard the last 5 minutes of 1978 UGA vs Kentucky. It directly contradicts everything you claim. 1978 was a good season but not pivotal in UGA history but it is a memorable moment in UGA 'lore' because of Munson. I remember listening to it live clearly ... because of Munson.

I heard "Oh you, Herschel Walker!!" and Belue to Scott and several others live. I also heard tons of games exactly as I described.
