So this was probably covered when we made it in, but how do you stop an Oklahoma offense that features a Heisman-winning QB who's been completing 70%, multiple receivers with 900+ yards, and two high quality running backs that have 1250 and 850 total yards respectively?

I mean, they've done it against some good teams so clearly they're for real. Is this where we find out whether our defense is just "good" - versus championship caliber? What am I missing?

I'm not concerned about our offense, though I think we'll need to be balanced...not sure that trying to control the clock with 80% run plays will work.

Can someone explain how you pick the team with the true freshman quarterback who looks down his receivers against the team with the senior, Heisman winner? Just looking for realistic hope that we have an edge someplace.

We have 2 running backs that finished 2nd and 3rd all time in UGA history and 1 they finished 2nd all time in SEC history. That doesn’t count our 3rd running back who is averaging 7 yards a carry and can also break one at any time. We have a QB that is 6th in passing efficiency and 1st in QBR of balls thrown over 20 yards.
We have the best 3rd down offense in the country and our defense is top in nearly every stat, including #2 in passing yards allowed. Our defense is built not to give up the big play. We got pressure on ND and Auburn (game 2) with 4 man rushes. Our MLB is a top 5 draft pick and plays sideline to sideline ALL game. Our special teams have been, well, special all season outside 1 hiccup.

Our coaches have this team believing like never before. The attitude of coaches and players is fantastic and everyone is about the team.

Yes, Oklahoma is good. Their offense is extremely balanced and they got amazing TEs and WRs. Their Oline has 3 all-Big12 teamers and 2 on the All-American team. Their QB did win the heisman, but.....he is all about himself. His coach hasn’t been able to tame him. They have a first year coach, that will be shitting himself, while ours have been composed and focused all year (Kirby has been there like 7 times).

Its going to be a long, physical game on both sides of the ball for both teams. I think those 2 Auburn games gives us the leg up there. That’s how I see us winning this game.

Well, you could turn it around and say the better built team that asks less of it's QB and more of the surrounding cast is more likely to win. Especially after a month layoff that effects passing teams more than running teams.

in all honesty, Oklahoma is an extremely balanced team. The thing about Mayfield is he is capable of really extending plays and has a great arm and great rapport with his TEs and WRs. Mayfield has a supporting cast, he just stands out for 2 reasons:

1) his ability to extend plays
2) his ability to be a complete dickhead

I'd say they obviously have the advantage at QB,TE and
O-line and we have at RB.Not so fast on the WR's.They
had a Better group last year and our group has just as
many 4 stars as they do.I think our guys would put up
similar numbers in that offense.

Watched OUs entire season of highlights, their oline benefits from Baker getting the ball out really fast.

If we disrupt his timing, that oline will get exposed.

Their run game benefitted from poorly coached and slow defenses that.missed tackles both in traffic and space. Don't see us missing easy tackles.

We're doomed... FFS grow a pair...

This is a very good/great team going against another very good/great team. Sounds like you have CMRPTSD....

That's the downside of making it to a small playoff - everyone in it is pretty good. With only 4 teams in, nobody is getting any cupcakes.

Seem to remember OU, FSU, and Ohio State getting blown out in these small playoffs.

We’ll play the receivers loose and deep, giving them the short plays and make them drive down the field. Once in the red zone, our defense strategy changes and we use the boundaries to our advantage. Red zone turnovers and field goals for OU will make the difference for us.

The key is no big plays. No piss rockets for a 50 yd td.

How is OU’s redzone offense anyway?

Blown out doesn't mean cupcake, you need look no further than our first game against Auburn. We got blown out, but we aren't cupcakes. Bad games/matchups are always possible. However, you're probably never going to see a playoff bracket of three powerhouses and University of North Texas, even if UNT went 12-0.

Roquan will be tasked with eliminating their tailbacks.
Make them 1 dimensional by eliminating the run.
And take away anything productive from the tailbacks in the passing game.

We will mush rush with our front 4. Collapse the pocket. Make Baker see the pressure coming. But speed isn't the key. Keeping him in the pocket but feeling a ticking clock is key.

Defensively, we will keep everything underneath. We will pick our moments after they cross the 40 (the rare blitz. Or rare stunt. The rare moment where we attack the underneath route).

Their tight end will kill us. But if he is the only one... we win.

If we stop their run game Mayfield won't be nearly as effective.

I've been to several big 12 games the last couple of years......including TCU and Texas.....2 of the better defenses in the league....and the tackling is akin to youth football. On the other hand our defense this season is as sound fundamentally as any college defense I've ever seen....perfect angles and tackling in space. Couple that with keeping OUs offense off the field and we have a shot.....OU is going to score and get yards.....it's the big 12 way......if we can get them to punt 5 times we got a shot.

They are a great football team.....if you look at the big 12 so far in bowls the conference is better than they get credit for...... and OU is the best in the conference. It'll be a slugfest.

Another slight edge we may have is offense is about timing....4 weeks off impacts offenses slihgty more than defenses, usually.

Interesting Fact. OU's third string back averages 9.2 yards per carry.

OU's backs:
Rodney Anderson 5.9
Trey Sermon 6.0
Abdul Adams 9.2
Team: 5.6 per carry

UGA's backs:
Nick Chubb 6.2
Sony Michel 7.2
D'Andre Swift 8.2
Team: 5.8 per carry

And OU has a more balanced attack than most realize. They run 55% of the time. And they're more of a ball control offense than most realize too. OU's average time of possession is just 1 minute a game less than UGA's.

These teams may be more similar than it appears.

Sooner fans make it sound like they run more 1 FB and 1TE sets than we do.

That might be true. I'd guess that we are in that set maybe 20% of the time. Sooner fans feel like half of their offense is run with the FB and TE.
