re: Regarding UGA's biggest game in 35 years...

That doesn’t count our 3rd running back who is averaging 7 yards a carry and can also break one at any time.
8.2 YPC
Interesting Fact. OU's third string back averages 9.2 yards per carry.
OU's backs:
Rodney Anderson 5.9
Trey Sermon 6.0
Abdul Adams 9.2
Team: 5.6 per carry
UGA's backs:
Nick Chubb 6.2
Sony Michel 7.2
D'Andre Swift 8.2
Team: 5.8 per carry
And OU has a more balanced attack than most realize. They run 55% of the time. And they're more of a ball control offense than most realize too. OU's average time of possession is just 1 minute a game less than UGA's.
These teams may be more similar than it appears.

Yeah but UGA is no Baylor. :booboo:
(Kidding. That'a joke...)
I get your point. Really do. But I don't see that happening again. Go look at our games. Our defense plays to the level of our competition. Our best defensive games have been against our best opponents.
I personally think Stoops is lazy and puts for as little effort as possible week to week. I just think that when it is all said and done and the game is over, we'll look at this game and see the OU defense played UGA better than the majority of their SEC opponents.

Dude the Sooner defense especially against the pass is horrible. Fromm isn't amazing but he is a game manager...
You're right. Statistically speaking. But we have played well later in the season.
UGA/Fromm 62% 21 TD 5 INT
TCU/Hill 67% 21 TD 6 INT
Pretty similar to TCU.
OU's defense handled them fine.
This is WHY YOU PLAY THE GAME!!
In all seriousness, I think the OU defense will be frustrating for UGA fans to watch because the UGA offense will not roll over them like most seem to think is going to happen.

I'm not sure who wins. But I suspect both teams will score in the 30s. If someone scores in the 40s, it will be OU, and they'll win.
I'm not saying that will happen, but a shootout favors OU.
In the end, I have a feeling the OU defense will prove to be better than most of the defenses you've faced all year. As bad as we are statistically, we always play SEC schools better than their in conference rivals do.
I'm looking forward to the game.

Wow. It's almost like you didn't read my post to start this thread.
This is the exact misconception I posted about.
Does the following mean that Georgia's defense sucks? (Using your logic, it would. But you're wrong.)
#7 Missouri
#25 Notre Dame
#27 Auburn
#27 Auburn
#34 App St
#46 Miss St
#73 Georgia Tech
#103 Kentucky
#104 Vanderbilt
#108 South Carolina
#111 Florida
#124 Tennessee

What SEC schools and what baseline are you using for this 10th verse?
See my OP. First point.
Alabama, aTm, Florida, Tenn and Auburn
Basically every game we've played with an SEC opponent over the last decade.

Setting all the BS aside, if we can hold OU to under 30 points we have a very good chance of winning the game
I agree with this.
And my first point was trying to point this out. UGA will probably hold us to fewer points than we're used to scoring but we'll score more on UGA than they're used to giving up.
Statistically is it likely even.

This season, has OU played a team that did a good job with time of possession, keeping Mayfield on the sideline?
I quickly checked. we normally split the T.O.P. pretty much 50/50 with most teams. The two exceptions are we held the ball for about 10 min more than Ohio State and won. And WVU held the ball for 10 min more than us, and we killed them anyway.
If your offense trades scores with your opponent, TOP doesn't really matter.

OU's defense, this year, is not prepared to handle UGA's offense.
Lorenzo is the second fastest player on a team with a ton of range, he is our outside linebacker slash defensive end. Roquan is the best defensive player in the country and does not miss.
Look guys. I get it. And I agree. You're good.
But this is the 10th verse of the same song we hear every time we play an SEC school. Literally the exact same thing. Different names for the players that's all.
I think Oklahoma's defense will prove to be better than you expect and better than most you've faced all year. You're looking at the 80-something ranked defense and think we suck. It is this way every year and it is a rare case when we don't out perform our ranking.
And our offense is good enough to play with the best defenses in the country. OU will not be overwhelmed on either side of the ball.
I'm not slighting you in the least. I just think it is a little naive to think that OU is too slow or soft to play with UGA.

Pass rush, you will not have seen anything close to ours.
I've been watching UGA football for over 25 years. Been to several games in person. The D this year is good. But if your perception is that OU will be overwhelmed with the UGA defensive pass ruch, I think that is another misconception.
It would be like an OU fan saying you haven't seen a passing attack like the Sooners have and implying you're going to be overwhelmed.
OU does have one or two offensive linemen on scholarship, I know because I've checked. They've done this a lot, and I think they'll be ready to hold their own.
Going to be a good game!
OU vs UGA - Misconceptions

Greetings from a Sooner fan who married a Georgia Peach! :)
I've been dreading while simultaneously looking forward to this game since I moved to Georgia 20 years ago. :)
I was at the UGA/Tenn game when we beat Tennessee for the first time in what seemed like forever. Donnan was the coach. I've never yelled so much in my life. I lost my voice that day! :) So, I'm a UGA fan of sorts but a die hard Sooner fan at the same time. This game is kinda like kissing your sister to me.
I come here in peace to just discuss college football - the greatest sport known to man. I love this game.
For my first post, I want to talk about what I think are misconceptions from both fan bases. Here are my thoughts in no particular order...
1. The OU Defense isn't any good.
Historically, when you look at games OU has played against SEC opponents, with the exception of the 2012 Johnny Manziel game, OU actually plays pretty well. Yes. We can suck. Bad too. But normally that is against high-octane extremly efficient spread offenses where we get on our heels and just collapse.
Over the last decade...
In 2008, we played FL and held them to their lowest score of the season. Yes we lost. But it wasn't our defense's fault.
In 2012, we played aTm w/ Johnny Manziel. He humiliated us.... IMO, 2nd worst game we've played in last 20 years.
In 2013, we played Bama and held them to 31, tieing their second lowest score of the season
In 2014, we played Tenn and held them to 10 points. Their 3rd lowest output of the year
In 2015, we played Tenn. They scored 24.Bama/Ark/Mizzou held them to fewer points than we did. Every other SEC school gave up more.
In 2016, we played Auburn. I belive the general consencus is that this was an abberation year for Auburn. 3 SEC schools also held them below 20.
Note that each of the above years was just like this year. Statistically, the OU D sucked.
In short, the OU defense has played defense pretty well against SEC schools. We generally play as well as SEC schools do against each other. Normally even a little better. I honestly don't think we'll suck against UGA unless you change your offensive style and run a Mason Rudolf type of game.
2. The UGA passing game isn't any good
My fellow Sooner fans seem to think that UGA can't throw.
But they can. They just choose to run 70% of the time. So, there's no way they're going to put up Big XII passing numbers. It is by design. They thow to mix things up and keep the defense honest, and frankly when the numbers call for it. They're efficient when they need to be. I think they're like the OU defense. Good enough when they need to be and better than it appears.
3. The UGA defense is overrated
Yep. My fellow Sooner fans believe this. They argue the reverse argument people use against the OU offense.
They point to the statistical ranking of your opponents offensivly. 5 schools that rank worse than 100. So the defense is overrated because the offenses they've played aren't any good, right? No.
It seems to escape people that one contributor to the low rankings of UGA's oppenents offensively is that they had to play UGA in the first place.
The UGA D is very good. It will probably be one of the top 3 defenses we've faced. It may even prove to be the single best defense we've faced all year.
I do believe stats can lie. But only if you're not paying attention to what you're looking at. The UGA D is legit.
4. The OU offense is overrated
See above. The UGA defense is overrated... :)
Final thoughts...
I think this game will go like most games we play against SEC teams.
UGA will be one of the tougher defenses we face while we will be one of the tougher offenses they face. OU's defense will do better than expected becuase just play better against pro-stle offenses. The outcome is unknown and I think any fan who's confident about his game is fooling themselves. OU won't score a much as we're used to while scoring more than UGA is used to giving up. That's pretty much how I think it will go.
When you get this late in the season, and earn a spot in the playoffs, no one sucks. I think it will be a good game.
Who do I think will win? UGA.
But that's because I can be pessimistic and always predict OU will lose. I even called the Iowa State loss correctly. :nana:
Fortunately for me, I'm wrong most of the time LOL. :booboo:
