It's becoming harder to remain a fan of college football

School loyalty is very few and far between these days. I hate to say it, but the NFL is even better than this shitshow. The NIL and portal have absolutely ruined the sport. At this point, is it even worth it?

Seinfeld had a joke that you aren't cheering for the players, you're cheering for the jersey.

I agree with you, though. If there was any doubt that college football was a minor league for the NFL, it's gone now. At least in the NFL, and with coaches, there are multi year contracts. With this new court ruling, players aren't limited to one portal transfer anymore.

At a minimum, they need to have the portal window open and close before the Signing Day circus. Move NSD back to February where it was before.

Kids who want to enroll early can still do so, just like they did when there was only a single signing period. They just won't make it official with a LOI until everyone else does.

Here's the thing. School are allowed to tamper with no repercussions. Kids don't like sitting? Time to go. The coach is making them work hard? Time to go. etc etc etc.

At the minimum at least make them pay back whatever NIL they get if they leave. I'm not so sure this type of stuff won't drive Kirby out of coaching.

100% agree with this.

That's all that remains.

My Saturdays used to be watching every second of Georgia game and watching as much of every other game I could.

Now I watch all of the Georgia game and then go rake leaves.

Even the CFP has little appeal to me this year. (no sour grapes)

Dawg fans are making a mountain out of a molehill.

Players have been transferring for decades.
Nate Hybl left the Dawgs after 1999 and had two top 10 seasons with the Sooners.
John Dewberry transferred to Tech back after 1981.

And players have always followed the bags in recruitment.

UGA shouldn't complain.
Mississippi State should complain. Vandy should complain. They can't hold any talented players year over year.
It is still business as usually in Athens.

How? Why do you care about NIL? Ignore it, we will help players get enough cash that it’ll largely help us many times.

Portal isn’t bad either, we’ve had good contributors from it (Kendrick, Tykee, Rara, Lovett).

It's not just Dawg fans. And it is a mountain. A big mountain with a big arse balling rolling down it with nothing to stop it.

Yes, kids have transferred occasionally, but had to sit out unless they were graduated. There were like 700+ in the friggin portal last time. That isn't like before.

Bag men only got to so many players and some got in trouble and avoided it. Now, these kids are getting MILLIONS and flashing it around and threatening to leave if it isnt more, entering portal to get more or just say frick it....

This is NOTHING like before. If the mole hill was 1 dude you mentioning transferring 42 years ago, what is 17 in one year? A Mountain

I don’t disagree but at least we aren’t one of the also ran schools. All in all it might be a pain, change your feelings on the game, etc. but it will in all likelihood be a net positive for Georgia. That’s not at all true for a place like Vanderbilt or Miss State or others. Those schools may well be forced out of the P5(4) in years to come.

It is crazy.. what gets me are the players that are entering the portal that have had a good season and should/will be the starting the upcoming year. Are they leaving looking to make more money?

Not NIL related but I hate how they can transfer to rival schools. If you want to go to FSU, knock your socks off. But Tennessee or Georgia Tech? Try again.

Tell a 20 year old they can make more money and still play football because they dont have a contract and are not really tied to a school...what do you think they are going to do...

Agree.
I'm just thankful that Kirby was able to win back-to-back NC before the poop show started affecting our recruiting in such a way that he might be hard pressed to put together another championship team.
I will remain optimistic but based on what is happening this season it's clear that it's starting to impact our recruiting.

Seriously doubt CKS coaches for another 10 years...

I personally bailed 4 yrs ago after 38yrs as a season ticket holder and contributor. I was planning my retirement to the Gulf Coast and my sons kids were starting to play Rec Football/Soccer ball on Saturdays and he didn't wanna continue paying for my Hartman Fund/Season tix (can't transfer)...

Hated to do it but not much choice, Still contribute to the Ag College/Vet School but that's it...

Looks like it's been a good decision with all that's happening in CFB.

Guess imma Boomer...

If you don't think Kirby will adapt then you're kidding yourself.

I am not smart enough to figure it all out, but the amount of money made by the SEC and Big10 schools makes NIL money really very small. Add the collectives. and increase in tickets and everything else nothing has changed except players are getting more money. As for the portal schools like UGA, Bama and the like will be able to possible get better players not only from portal, but add more from high schools. No one knows what the new model will be, but sure won't be like the old one.

Could not agree more
NIL and Transfer portal has destroyed what makes this game so beautiful.
I quit following recruiting etc years ago with all the “respect my decision” tweets etc

I love college football and watch a ton of it but as for my teams I follow whoever walks out on the field the first game that is who I will watch

But my give a “sh&t” factor on the outcome is significantly lower
I just watch to watch football
