I don't know if I'd go that far.

I'm just going off some research from the stats at his previous spot and what some USM fans have said.

You seem upset.

I'm not. I'm just saying that having a QBs splits be so dependent on one particular WR is not indicative of a healthy offense, and I don't buy that that sickness is entirely talent related.

Every QB needs a security blanket to convert 3rd downs.
If you convert 3rd downs, everyone else on the team gets fed touches. If you dont convert, you punt.

Mecole had a better year at UGA than he did with the chiefs.
4 different targets in 2018 had 30+ catches (including Mecole). Three targets had 5 receiving TDs or more (including Mecole).

Those arent all backshpulder passes.

But take away a QBs third down conversions, and no one gets enough touches (including the running backs)

Fine, but it's the coaches' and QBs job to find a new one when option A goes down. Big WR1 going down can't be an offensive death sentence.

Could have been the play calls or could have been Fromm cheating progressions. It happens.

When you run PA out of the pistol or shotgun, you don’t have to turn your back to the field. One of the benefits of it. i’m not gonna argue stats, but it seemed like we did it regularly. My perception could be wrong.

The 3rd and long runs are not shocking to me. You may pop one, but at least get positive yards and lower chances of turnovers. It falls into Smart’s overall strategy really.

The stat was actually for 2nd and long runs, fwiw. In analytics world, that's not a strategy that leads to first downs at a high rate.

I doubt there is a parallel to 2nd down runs and conversions for 1st downs.

A 2nd down incompletion is just as bad as a 0 yard run.

Getting anything positive on 2nd down avoids 3rd and long and keeps the playbook open (and the defense guessing).

I haven’t run the numbers. That’s why I prefaced with “in analytics world.” I just know that the analytics folks are pretty adamant that that’s a bad tendency.

I think the logic would be that two passes to gain 10 yards is more likely than 1 pass to gain 7 or 8.

How bad of a tendency it is obviously depends on how well you run the ball, which is I think what the tweet was getting at when they said it was understandable in UGA’s case.

Brady has shown that a passing coordinator can make a world of difference. So I’m fine with Coley staying as long as they are mimicking what LSU is doing with Ensminger and Brady.

It seemed like Pickens stayed out there pretty much the whole time vs Baylor (whether due to development or necessity or both), and the results seemed generally positive for the offense as a whole.

Pickens is a good blocker too. We should have him out there almost every play.

The fact Kitchens and his staff were fired a bit over 2 weeks ago, so Monken has been sitting out there for a while and we haven't pulled the trigger yet, suggests this was probably just random rumor mongering.

Do we have an open spot on staff currently to bring him in?

I think this would be a great hire. His schemes really open up the passing game. If I’m not mistaking, wasn’t he OC at OK st. when Brandon fricking Weeden was throwing for 500 yards a game?
