This team is solid. We were jacking up several ill advised shots early on and still win by 20+. Actually shot well from the FT line.

In all seriousness, this team is loaded. Jones, Davis and House are all legit future NBA contributors/possible starters. Have we ever had three guys at the same time you could confidently say that about?
Then we have Gilder and Hogg who certainly have the talent to be called NBA players if they can round out their games.

Hopefully Simmons finds ways to make the players around him better. Even if his production goes down some, getting some consistency in team output would go a long way, I reckon
To me he already does and they still constantly take dumb arse shots, so I guess this is where coaching comes into play.

The Pels. Ohhhh God the Pels.

Can you imagine this team with just a not trash coach?

With Stansbury on the bench, I wouldn't consider our coaching "trash"

Just finished the game. Hell of a way to start conference ball. Jalen had a monster of a game. Super impressive, and the majority of his shots were within the offense. It's incredibly nice to be able to have multiple players capable of stepping up when others are having a bit of an off night.
Would like to see house continue to drive the ball instead of settling for tough outside shots. Tyler had an off night but still found ways to stay involved rebounding and distributing the ball when he's doubled down low. He's incredibly impressive with how he makes the right play the majority of the time, just playing within the game and himself, never really forcing anything. Also love that dj finally got a three to fal late. He had to have been frustrated.
This was a great first win, and it looked like a solid crowd. It should continue to get better as we move along.
Side note, I played ball with Melvin Watkins oldest son Marcus back in the day when manny Watkins was just a little kid. Seeing him playing for Arkansas makes me feel old.

For us it comes down to how we do in the second half of the season. We should not have more than 3 losses until our January 30th game against Iowa state. After that, this is our schedule
@ Vandy
vs South Carolina
@ Alabama
@ LSU
vs Ole Miss
vs Kentucky
vs MSU
@ Mizzou
@ Auburn
vs Vandy
How we finish is where we find out if we can win the conference. We get south carolina and kentucky at home but playing vandy twice isn't the best. Going to vandy, hosting south carolina, to alabama, and to LSU is probably the toughest string of games

honestly you could say this about UK, KU, UNC pretty much every year. Actual coaching is massively overrated in college hoops.
Sure Izzo is one way to do it but it's fairly rare

Truth. Kentucky would win it all every year with all that NBA talent if their coach was worth a dick.

There's clearly some development going on. All you have to do is compare the play of Trocha-Morelos between last year and this year.
Hell, Jalen Jones is playing much better this year than he was last year too.

I'm sure you guys discussed this already but why is Elijah Thomas transferring?

Anybody else notice the concerning trend of Tyler not hitting his free throws the last several games? When the season started he was doing a nice job, but these past few games he's been bad from the line. Really one of the only concerns I have moving forward.

He wasn't seeing the playing time he thought he would , even though he'd been hurt and his play clearly had him probably fourth on the depth chart behind Davis, jones, trocha and Miller.
It was still a stupid decision because he likely would have seen a lot of minutes next year. I'm not convinced he wasn't highly overrated, but a lot of people think he will be a very good player. He's definitely a big body and while his loss doesn't hurt us much this year it might down the road, but who's to say we wont snag another solid transfer like we did with jalen jones.
It's just a strange new world with the amount of transfers that take place in college basketball, though a&m does seem to be above the national average.
