Let's see how bad we truly are:

Rush Offense

2018 - 224.4 yards/game
2019 - 159.2 yards/game

Pass Offense

2018 - 252.6 yards/game
2019 - 235.4 yards/game

Total Offense

2018 - 477.0 yards/game
2019 - 394.5 yards/game

Scoring Offense

2018 - 36.0 points/game
2019 - 29.5 points/game

Rush Defense

2018 - 95.2 yards/game
2019 - 130.7 yards/game

Pass Defense

2018 - 253.5 yards/game
2019 - 209.5 yards/game

Total Defense

2018 - 348.4 yards/game
2019 - 340.2 yards/game

Scoring Defense

2018 - 25.3 points/game
2019 - 22.5 points/game

Turnover Margin

2018 - (-0.54)/game
2019 - (-0.46)/game

Record

2018: 9-4
2019: 8-5

Worse in every offensive category, better in every defensive category except run defense and better in turnover margin

Offensively much worse. The OL is by far and away the glaring issue with the 2019 team. Also clearly missing Trayveon and Sternberger. Although Spiller and Wydermyer showed some signs in the OM game of future promise.

The defense in my opinion is more or less the same as last year. A little less effective in the front 7 and a little more effective in the back end. Also forcing more turnovers (or at least it feels like it).

So similar to Sherman leaving sumlin his best players for his first season, maybe Sumlin left some of his best players to Jimbo in the first season?

As frustrating as it is, we all know that while Sumlin’s classes would grade out well on paper, there were usually holes in several positions and the star talent we did have was always heavily stacked to the skill positions, when we really need depth on both lines and in other spots.

This year is just going to have to be a painful growing year, it is still a team of mostly guys sumlin recruited and jimbo has only had one season with. Maybe we can see some improvement by the end of the year, and we better damn well see improvement next season where jimbo will have two full classes of his guys and multiple years of his coaching.

I would add in the loss of Erik McCoy as well.

Member when all we wished for was a better secondary?

That worked out well.

Of course you’d view our increase in offensive efficiency as a negative.

Interesting but it feels like our D is much improved vs last year. This year our offense totally disappears for long stretches leaving our D out there.

I haven’t looked at the #s but i would guess red zone eff and TD% in the red zone are both up as well.

Something tells me the scoring defense stats will skew heavily in 2019's favor after next week.
