What if Calzada settles in and looks really good going into SEC play

We win how many?

If he learns how to look off receivers, and makes it past his first read? Then the year can be salvaged. Anyone can look good against NM.

Pretty big what if unfortunately. If he really clicks 10 wins is still on the table. If he doesn’t so is 8.

Unfortunately the O-Line needs to improve just as much. I think the Defense gives us a chance against everyone but Bama, but they can only hold the line so long if we’re going 3-Out every series. Especially against a team like ole miss.

Lol. 3rd in the west, at best, with Calzada.

What if Jared Hocker and Ryan McCollum realized they had no shot at the NFL and returned?

What if we threw the ball to receivers not named Lane, Smith or Chapman?

This.
First few series every 3rd down was going to Lane. It’s like rewatching Ausbon and Mond all over again

The season isn’t completely lost just yet, It’s week 2

He’s got the arm to stretch the ball all over the field. Can he make the right reads and keep plays alive is the big what if.

Calzada has a long way to go. In King’s “poor performance” very Kent State you could see him go through progressions, have pocket presence, and make some plays. I didn’t taste that yesterday. I keep reading over and over the guys we’re wide open all day and Calzada couldn’t find them.

If he progresses and looks more competent, I move our range from 9-3 to 11-1 with 10-2 most likely to 8-4 to 10-2 with 9-3 most likely. And if he doesn’t, then 8-4 isn’t crazy.

It’s not just on his shoulders. This OL has to play better. Jimbo has to go back to the 2020 gameplan. Control the clock, run the ball, and lean on the defense.

I didn’t see many guys open that calzada didn’t find. At one point they were dropping 8 into coverage, getting open at that point is hard.

He had a bad habit of chunking out wounded ducks to wide open WRs though. He needs to fix that and his ball control. Almost lost 2 more fumbles than his one.

Can't take much of that at all. And that includes Arkansas.

Wonder if we will see the third string qb take any snaps in the NM game. That kid needs to get up to speed quickly. Just one injury away.

Were you at the game? Other WR's were wide open, but Calzada didn't look past his first read.

On the drive where we kicked the field goal, didn't Brock Huard point out that Wydermyer was so wide open that all Calzada had to to was wait 2 more seconds?

That's correct. Fisher was also chewing on him about it when he came off the field.

I hope what we saw in the 4th quarter was the beginning of the game slowing down a little for Calzada. Very glad we have our home game against New Mexico for him to get more reps. We will get beat by Arkansas if we are not more efficient on offense.

8-10 wins if calzada settles down and looks good. Honestly we’ve got other problems on offense, so it’s not just him. O line play was pretty bad and our receivers still don’t get much separation, but we play the same 3 all game long.

Our whole offense is an issue right now and if we don’t get stuff straightened out quick, we could be in for a long season.

I think we just need Calzada to be Mond at this point. Take care of the ball - hit open receivers.

Oline is more pressing concern. Need to get the RBs going. Grind out yards, run the clock and keep the D fresh.

D has held our two opponents (I know) to 17 total points. They put up a combined 95 in their other two games. They deserve all the credit so far.

The play at 2:30 in the 3rd

The scramble and pass to Jalen

Tells us all we need to know, Calzada has game, big time

He has legit arm talent for sure but he still makes very questionable decisions trying to force the big play instead of taking the easy yards. That's going to bite him in the arse once we hit conference play.

With our line looking like hot garbage right now I'm worried we are in for a long day vs Pig.
