I have a very hard time believing 5.2. That’s ridiculous for a b-ball coach if you’re not Coach K, Cal, Williams, Self, or Izzo. Buzz is good though. He’s probably a top 15 coach. He’s already making 3. I think itd take close to 3.75-4.25 with it being a longer term deal mostly (fully?) guaranteed.

5.2 million for Buzz Williams, who has made one Elite 8 in his career is absolutely insane.

Unless of course you are Buzz Williams, who probably is thinking: If you offer me that, I'm signing.

Same. I didnt mind spending stupid money on a football coach because that’s by far our #1 sport we care about (and because it wasn’t any of my money....) but spending that much on a basketball coach seems a bit dumb, especially if we aren’t getting a ultra top tier coach that has won it all.

I’m a fair weather basketball fan who only really pays pays attention at the end of the season and tourney so whatever we do in the end won’t bother me much, but I do think that’s way too much to pay a coach for here.

at the end of the day, it's money that isn't available for other things we prioritize. I don't like it.

There are only two sports that make money in college athletics. They are the two sports that fund all others.

If you are losing money in football or basketball you are losing money.

What does this take money away from?

nothing will ever take money away from football here. After that? Who cares. Frankly, basketball should take money away from every sport not named football

Here’s the deal, Buzz Williams has not signed anything yet but I give it a less than a 10% chance he returns. That should not take away anything that he has done or will do this postseason. There’s a very real chance VT makes the Sweet 16 and Buzz is moving closer to family and getting something over a 2 million dollar raise. That’s tough to combat.

However, like I said yesterday Whit has not been sitting on his hands. There are multiple sources indicating Cronin is the clubhouse favorite. I personally love the move but I’m just passing along what I’ve heard. The goal is to keep Buzz around but there are good candidates checking in and if I had to put money on it Cronin will be VT’s next coach.

As CZY and others have said, right now it’s just time to enjoy the ride. Highest ever VT seed and there’s so much potential to make a big run. Let’s enjoy these few weeks as things shake out.
