So since we are at this point, what is the expectation of a new hire? What should be the benchmark of a successful A&M hoops coach?

If we can't land Buzz, I'd be fine with hiring an up and comer from the mid-majors with a low risk contract.

sorry I meant results. What results should be the benchmark - ie, make Tourney 3/4 of time, place in SEC, etc.

i want a coach who can make the tournament three out of every four years, and thats being a little light imo, and make a legitimate run at a regular season conference championship every second or third year

thats the bare minimum imo. some other stuff i would like to see is eventually getting us past the sweet 16 and start getting into the recruitment of some of the major one and dones that texas produces

So, in other words, Billy Gillispie. I second this.

-No losing seasons.
-No embarrassing losses at home in nonconference (Rice, Southern, North Texas, UC Irvine, Texas Southern, etc.)
-In any non-tournament years, we need to be on the bubble, not completely out of contention

so you'd consider anyone without the success BCG had to be not meeting expectations?

Westcoast described Gillispie. I then laid out my expectations. If you think not getting blown out at home by shite teams in nonconference (even Melvin never did that) is unreasonable...

Tourney results are somewhat random. I’d rather have a guy who has proven he can get it done time and again in the regular season.

The tournament is all about matchups.

However, your likelihood of advancing past the first weekend is MUCH higher as a consistent 1-4 seed.

Out of the last 5 tournaments, the MVC has had multiple bids 2 of those tournaments. The Ohio Valley (Murray State) has NEVER had an at-large team.

Not true.

I would need to put on another 60 pounds to sound like that.

FYI: Melvin got blown out by the likes of NC A&T and Birmingham Southern at home.

Still your point is well taken that getting blown out at home by crap teams is totally unacceptable.

VT internet people are acting like the guy who posted this is legit

quote:

The buzz around Buzz staying in BBurg is becoming less positive than it was in the last few weeks. A&M is about throw huge cash at him apparently. If he leaves, it’s not for Whits lack of trying. Hopefully Buzz ah oks the world and stays here if all this rumors are true. Stay tuned, Hokies.

Right now lets just enjoy this NCAA tourney. This could be fun!!

its being speculated we are going to give him a deal north of 5 million which is massive. would make him the 4th highest paid coach in the country. from their 247 guy
quote:

He gone. I don't know if its true or not but heard from some people we tried to make a big push the other night from some large boosters and it fell short. $5.2 mil a year to go to A&M

Close to the number I have been hearing.

Everything seems to be pointing strongly that Buzz will be our new coach. Not only does virtually every insider say that it looks to be Buzz, but most seem to act like a handshake deal is in place. Add that to sip insiders saying Buzz is available for either job (what seems to be face saving for them), and it sure seems like we're getting Buzz.

Obviously consistent tournament success is great, but I feel like a lot of the guys who have made one good tournament run haven’t done well at their next stop.

Explains why gasoline prices have gone up a bit .

But seriously, for this type of money we may as well go for Final Four coaches.
