Man refs gave Michigan that game.
Ref comes back and says that’s the end of the game after giving Michigan a second shot that they did not deserve.

If WMU doesn’t get cute and try a trick play on third down, they might pick up the first down on the ground and run out the clock.

And what the hell was with how the ref held the ball after Michigan got the 1st down past midfield so that Michigan could spike the ball with as much time left as possible? Without that, they would have been lucky to spike the ball with 5 seconds left, rather than 9 seconds. Then there would have been no play after the real last play.

This right here. You can’t leave it to chance, that includes the referees magically finding a second to put back on the clock.
