They shortened the 4th quarter of the SoCar game due to HEAT?

And they cut it by a whopping 5 minutes?
I mean, I guess I could understand the softness of cutting it short. Meaningless game already decided, liability, Karen moms, etc.
But cutting it from 15 to 10?
And when it’s 50-0?
It just seems really…dumb.

Never heard of anything like that in my life. Just how hot was it?

I’ve seen it in high school games where they have a running clock for the second half. But I’ve never seen it in college

100° with 110° heat index.
Hotter on the field, I'm sure.

It’s Columbia SC. It’s unbearably hot. Always.

Hottest of my life was walking around the Columbia SC zoo in August. Place is like an oven.

Schools don't want to get sued. Might have had a few reported heat strokes in the crowd. If the stadium admins see that and don't take some sort of immediate action, they lose the implied consent cover they typically get.

I’m not disputing that it’s hot, even if the Texan in me side-eye’s the claim.
I can even accept shortening the game.
The weird part to me is that the decision seems to have been made in the 3rd quarter, but they still said “Playing a 10 minute 4th is meaningfully different than playing 15 minutes.”
I just don’t get the rationale.

The feel on the field would likely be in the 130 range. Very frickin hot.

The only thing that seperates Columbia from Hell, in the summer, is a screen door.

ITT you can tell who has been to Columbia and who has not been to Columbia

I walked 18 holes this morning with a caddie in Charleston. It was hot and extremely humid.

Have they ever heard of scheduling night games or late afternoon to combat the heat? ????
