Missouri was in the SEC east while the west was the top dog for like 12 years until Kirby came along.
You were the winner of a cripple fight. You would finish 5 or 6 in the west.

You need to give new franchises time to develop roots and a bit of history. It would be like letting some AA teams into MLB and expecting results in 3 years or even 35 years.
