The facts are that the Red Sox met Betts’ contract demands twice and he refused to sign both deals. [quote]
No, they didn’t. Quit lying. They were about 45mm below what he wanted and ultimately signed for (345 mm).
[quote]He didn’t want to stay in Boston.
This is complete bullshite. He was two years removed from a World Series and had just won an MVP. He has repeatedly said he didn’t want to leave Boston. He’s also discussed in great detail how after he was traded he was headed to free agency because he felt a responsibility to other players. He only signed with the Dodgers because of COVID.
So, there goes your other bullshite narrative about the Red Sox seeking a trade partner that could sign Mookie long term and limiting their leverage as if any organization has or would ever prioritize this in a trading partner.
I’ll let Mookie know he’s wrong according to you :rotflmao:

Plus, he made it pretty well known he wanted out of Boston.

“I knew, they told me,” Betts said. “It was weird, man. I was like ‘why’. …I didn’t know anything different. I didn’t wanna leave, but I understood the business side of it. It worked out.”
Just say you don’t follow baseball that closely. No need to make things up.

Buddy you weren’t even alive the last time the Yankees won a championship and just got swept by Boston, bozo.

I’m a Red Sox fan so not exactly a Rays fan, but I agree they need to stay in Tampa. Nashville, Salt Lake, Portland are all worse locations imo.
Yordan wasn’t the Yordan we know today at that time. Mookie had just won an MVP.

Will be interesting to see how it unfolds.
Has Desantis spoken about it at all? He’s a huge baseball fan. I know he’s term limited and on his way out, but seems like a project he’d be all over.

If they do it right, that is. Which the first renderings are promising.

No, for most people the modern era is understood. I forget you have to specifically designate that era for you boomers or you’ll go on some nonsensical rant about the Sparky McChucklefrick trade in 1978.
I don’t think the Rays are as unpopular as claimed. Tropicana is objectively a shite hole and difficult to get to. Rays fans discuss the annoyances of just trying to go to games on the BID discord all of the time.

Rick Perry should go to prison for this shite.
Never trust an Aggy.
Yes, without hesitation. He should probably be removed as a patrol officer entirely. He’s clearly retarded.

One of the few, maybe only, team that would is the Dodgers.
This is complete revisionist nonsense and at no point did the Red Sox take into consideration which team could sign Mookie long term during their trade negotiations. What a ridiculous statement :rotflmao:
What actually happened is the Red Sox accepted the best package which in hindsight was terrible. At the time, Alex Verdugo, Connor Wong, and Jeter Downs were considered to be premier prospects. All three were busts.
Mookie intended on going to free agency, but COVID happened and he signed with the Dodgers given the uncertainty of the market. He’s discussed this at length on more than one occasion.
You completely made up this “context”

so some of you aren't really looking at the pictures, are you?
The Cubs were an odd choice. Should been an AL East team.

Are you a teenager? It's not hard at all.
Name one in the modern era, grandpa. The Red Sox traded a first ballot HOF in the prime of his career for virtually no return.

This is part of it and why RFK (who I’m sure you hate) should receive a lot more support than he has. He’s the first person in my lifetime in such a high profile role seeking to treat the cause instead of the symptoms.

Boston wasn’t willing to give him the $300 (or whatever) deal the Dodgers were. Better to get something for him than to just let him eventually walk.
They chose Devers instead. Who is also no longer with the team.
Both resulted in curses :wah:

Red Sox (794 G):
139 HR | 470 RBI | 134 OPS+ | 34.6 fWAR | 1 WS
Title
Dodgers (794 G):
163 HR | 473 RBI | 134 OPS+ | 29.3 fWAR | 3 WS
Titles
This is and will always be one of the worst trades ever made. The centerpiece of the return the Red Sox received (Alex Verdugo) isn’t even in the league anymore.
Hard to think of a worse trade.
