I’ve seen numerous posts on here that Chambliss didn’t go to LSU because of how much money Ole Miss paid him.

The LSU folks constantly boast that money isn’t issue for them.

That leads to several questions:

1. If LSU/Kiffin wanted him, why didn’t he go (see LSU money note above)?

2. Did LSU/Kiffin not want him?

Lane probably wanted him but not at the price he was asking.

He wasn’t recruited by Lane.

Word is Chambliss and Lacy are of a higher moral caliber than Kiffin, which wouldn't be hard to attain, and they wanted to finish up with Ole Miss.

Lane stayed away due to the eligibility concern at the time.

His eligibility was a big question and I don't think LSU wanted to commit to him, have him end up ineligible after the portal was closed, and end up empty handed.

That’s horseshite. Lane was having talks with Tom Mars directly on getting TC cleared and his intention was to take him to LSU.

He got an injunction to play a sixth year of college football in Mississippi. Six years!

So, Lane was scared off by eligibility concerns, but he was part of NFL players suing in front of a handpicked judge to play for LSU?

The eligibility claim doesn’t hold water.

Why would you recruit a ineligible player?

Given everything that has happened since Kiffin's departure, this is an obviously laughable statement.

Uh. Neither were a starting QB. That’s slightly different.

Guys in NFL camps got injunctions in LA to play at LSU. Chambliss’ injunction is irrelevant to my questions.

Maybe. But, it would be hard to find a judge in La to clear him for his 8th year.

I think it does if you consider it in the context of the time. A lot has changed since the end of last season. One could argue that Chambliss being ruled ineligible by the NCAA and subsequently being reinstated by a MS judge essentially showed the NCAA to be toothless, then throw in the botched 5 for 5 ruling, and it became wild west free for all after that.

Golding told Chambliss and Lacy that Ole Miss people wouldn't piss on them if they were in a fire, like they feel about Kiffin if they left for LSU.
Golding said so in an interview

It was an effective retention strategy

From December 15, 2025:

Chambliss said he would consider all options for 2026 if his waiver is approved. That includes, presumably, weighing the benefits of entering the transfer portal and reuniting with former coach Lane Kiffin at LSU.

"I'd have to consider what the best situation is for me," Chambliss said. "What I feel most comfortable with. Who I trust the most. Just get a feel for every possibility really. There's a lot that goes into that."

——

LSU wanted Chambliss and we had an NIL/Rev share package together to bring him to Baton Rouge.

Ole Miss beat Tulane and then beat UGA—meaning the transfer window was going to open while Chambliss was preparing for the semi finals.

Chambliss correctly was not going to jump into the portal during a playoff run. LSU correctly could not risk holding out until after Ole Miss’s season wrapped up and hope that Chambliss still wanted to leave Oxford.

Worked out for Chambliss—he’s a hero in Oxford making a ton of money. LSU got the QB highest rated in the portal. People at ole Miss suggesting Chambliss was never going to leave are lying to themselves. Same as people in Baton Rouge acting like Chambliss wasn’t a priority or that LSU wouldn’t be a better team with Chambliss at QB. It was just bad timing.
