It’s probably a better discussion to look at the 3 DL plus the other edge rusher.
I don’t know your roster well enough to tell who that is.

Main rotation at 2 DE spots will probably be Lawrence and Logan as starters with Farrell and likely one of the redshirt freshmen (Cotton/Jenkins) stepping up there. Lawrence and Logan had very good years and Farrell really emerged in the rotation.
At NT they might start Fehoko out there again and Shelvin came on strong to end the season. If they feel confident enough at NT with Shelvin and someone else (Livingston or Ika), then they will move Fehoko to start at DE then our rotation at DE is extremely strong with Logan and Farrell spelling Fehoko and Lawrence. I think they may end up doing this because the NT doesnt even play near every snap because we go nickel (2-4-5) fairly often.
On the outside setting the edge will be Divinity as the non pass rush OLB and then Chaisson is finally coming back as the pass rush OLB so we look like monsters out there. Divinity did a really good job stepped up for Chaisson in the pass rush role this past year even though that's not his thing really (hence why he played Field OLB not Bench/Buck OLB). Backups are all pretty experienced there, between Anthony and Thornton. Marcel Brooks could see some looks as well. Jacoby Stevens is a hybrid safety/OLB as well that increased playing as the year went on.
I dont think there's much worry for next year really. If they feel comfortable at NT without Fehoko, it should be a huge strength up front.

Shelvin is the key piece next season. If he can play at a high level, and Fehoko can play end, the whole thing comes together. Wouldn't surprise me to see Ika playing some NT by mid season, either. Also need Chaisson to stay healthy. If those 2 things happen, the D will be back at 2011 level.

How is this delusion? We had little depth this past year, and we were still elite on D. We return almost every starter, plus get an elite pass rusher back that didn't play at all. There are other good defenses in this league that don't have a script A on their jersey.

You are responding to a cajunbama alter. Don't waste your time, brother.

One thing you never have to worry about with lsu is DL or DB and Defense in general. They are always going to be quality.

And then they still put a beating on the “national champs”

elite on D
LSU was not elite on defense in 2018 at all.
7th in the SEC by scoring defense
26th in the nation
And vs winning FBS schools:
7th in the SEC again
39th nationally

elite pass rusher back that didn't play at all
I don't think you know what elite means. Chaisson was not an elite pass rusher in 2017 and in the Miami game he wasn't one. He has a ton of potential and is extremely athletic but calling him elite is ridiculous, especially coming off an injury.

Factor out giving up 74 points to A&M (or at least just use the regulation scoring) and I’d assume those rankings would see a solid rise, which would be more indicative.

The 43 points allowed in 7OT gave LSU a beating in the scoring defense rankings. The 7OT were the difference between being 4th in the SEC by scoring defense and 14th in the nation.
Now the fact that they couldn't get a stop in 7OTs and allowed 43 points might be used to support your post. Maybe it wasnt an elite defense.

Do you (LSU folks) still feel good about the DL?
This coming season, I do feel good.
For 2020, not so much. I know that many fans are excited about the 2020 in-state DL...but as we've seen multiple times, it's far from a guarantee that we'll land all of the ones that we want.
