Tennessee's best team site is the Rivals affiliate which is why some VOLS fans are hanging on.
Rivals is becoming Scout though, just a very poorly run site on the national level. Irrelevant compared to 247.

I wish OM had a better 247 site but much like TN, our Scout and Rivals sites have been around forever so that's what most fans subscribe to.
Hurd got his fifth star and is ranked the #21 overall prospect in the new Rivals 100.

I actually agree with the OP that average stars is probably the most important metric of all. I don't know how 247 does their numbers, but going by how Rivals does it, if your team's class has an average star rating of 3.5+ then it was a pretty good class.

Now our top 20 on Rivals avg is a 3.65; could be a 3.7 tomorrow if/when Joe Henderson gets the 4th star he deserves.
I prefer 24/7 by the way, not some Rivals homer.

Way too early to get hyped on recruit ratings.
However, a 3.5+ average star rating by Rivals over four years will make you a perennial power in most cases.

Thanks bobbyray.
FWIW I'm subscribed to no sites and might look at them once or twice a year, if that.
I yahoo'd for recruiting rankings and yahoo came-up - I wasn't thinking any particular recruiting ranking service, it was just meant for discussion purposes.
Overall team rankings are based on a larger gross class. The best way to determine what is going-on is by looking at who-else has offered a kid and then asking yourself, "do I trust my coaches, do they have a good record recruiting," and then the last thing to do is look to see if a particular need is being filled.
Other than that, I really do not pay that much attention to recruiting rankings. Never had time to follow them much, just got interested in them since joining this community.

Disagree. Not all classes have the same goals and targets.
For example a class that takes a kicker and several OL won't rack up the star power as a lot of skill players, QB, RB, or WR. Doesn't mean it's not a good class, hell it might be exactly what that team needs.
I don't understand why people try to make recruiting rankings into an exact science. It's not possible.

Rivals is used by bcs coaches by a very wide margin compared to the other sites.

247 is way too biased. You have the evaluators running specific team sites which causes favortism since they see them a lot more and interact with the fan base. 247 has the best individual evaluators like Keith Neiubher and JC Shurburtt who only do rankings, but there is around 50 other people who also do rankings so there input is not that significant.

A&M sites tried to sell to its fan base to total class value for years while Mack Brown was killing us. and they fan base ate it up.
Its all about avg. stars. ALL about avg. stars.
Good post.

It's clear rivals is better than ESPN and scout though.
Better than ESPN, yes. Rivals clearly has its' bias so let's not proclaim them the kings. Again, the 247 Composite is the most balanced across the board.

And Rivals isn't? They are mostly focused on southern recruits. Their national evaluation system is a joke.

Well the south is where most of the good players come from.

After the completion of the Rivals updates, UGA now has a 3.81 star average, the highest in the nation.

If you're going to do it that way, just use their points so a high four star isn't weighted the same as a low four star, whatever the scale is a 6.4 is the best or something? I can't remember.
