If we look at one of the recruiting services' rankings we see one particular order based upon total number of recruits.

But some classes are, by nature, larger or smaller than others based upon how many schollies there are to give. Correct?

So if we look at the SEC's recruiting rankings, thus far and by individual recruit rather than class totals, it looks far different.

By class total it looks like this, so far, for 2014:

#1 Tennessee
#2 Alabama
#5 Kentucky
#9 Georgia
#10 Ole Miss
#11 Florida
#14 A&M
#16 LSU
#21 Vandy
#22 Auburn
#27 South Carolina
#32 Arkansas
#38 Miss State
#41 Mizzou

But then comes what matters. What is the average rating of each recruit, forgetting about class totals and instead focusing on the quality on an individual basis.

(Seperations denote a full tenth of a point which is major in the scoring scale.)

1 - Bama 18 Commits 3.56 Avg
2 - UGA 16 Commits 3.50 Avg
3 - A&M 14 Commits 3.50 Avg

4 - Tenn 24 Commits 3.46 Avg
5 - SCAR 13 Commits 3.46 Avg
6 - UF 16 Commits 3.44 Avg
7 - LSU 14 Commits 3.42 Avg

8 - KY 22 Commits 3.27 Avg
9 - Auburn 14 Commits 3.21 Avg

10- Vandy 18 Commits 3.17 Avg
11- Ole Miss 20 Commits 3.15 Avg

12- Arkansas 16 Commits 2.86 Avg

13- Miss State 15 Commits 2.67 Avg

14- Mizzou 15 Commits 2.53 Avg

If this is done per rivals, which I think it is, the numbers are slightly off for LSU because we have one guy unranked and a 2* star kicker committed. Not trying to be a dick, but it's also a 3.43 avg.

This. They have some of our 3* commits unrated and one of our 4* commits rated a 2*

This whole concept is flawed..

Going by Rivals, only your top 20 commits count towards the overall points. We have a lot more early commits than other teams.

Take our top 20, which is a closer comparison to the #s of the other teams and our avg is 3.6

Come on man, you know that the site that has your team's class the highest ranked is the right one

The most accurate way to look at overall recruiting IMO.

No - because ESPN and scout are weighed so automatically makes it suspect. Not to mention the way they calculate it isn't simply adding the ratings and dividing it by 4.. they have some weird way of doing it that tends to weigh more heavily with 247 ranking.

We're top 2 on 247. 247 may be better but we won't know for a couple of years when we have the data to actually compare. It's clear rivals is better than ESPN and scout though.

And the Vols/Rivals love connection will climax here in a half hour when they give Jalen Hurd a 5th star

I doubt he gets a 5th star but he deserves it. He hasn't camped much so I don't think he gets it.

Ftr - your baby, 247, has him with 5 stars.
