And there it is...we live in a world now where certain teams hope they don't make the SECCG. So theoretically a 10-2 SEC team that doesn't make the conference Championship game gets in the Playoffs over a 10-3 SEC team who lost in the SECCG. How can that be good for our conference?

Personally, I don't want the championship games to go away because I don't want one more Saturday out of the year without college football.

depends on the team I'd bet. A 10-2 Missou may not make it but a 10-2 bama or ga gets in for sure.

I think we get at least 4.

Outside of the big ten what conference gets 2 teams in?

If this season ends up like 2007 where everyone has one or 2 loses it could get interesting where everyone in the top 15 has less than 3 losses

I don’t think it’s a guarantee.

The ACC could get 2 spots with Miami and Clemson both playing well.

Notre Dame gets a spot if they win out.

The Big 12 and a mid-major are guaranteed one each.

That leaves 7 spots for the SEC/Big 10.

USC’s win over LSU really hurts LSU’s chances if they are 10-2. Got to think a 4th BIG10 team gets in over LSU if everyone is 10-2 or better.

You could very well have the below scenario:

12-0 Texas
10-3 Texas A&M (loss to Notre Dame 2 losses to TX)
10-2 Georgia (loss to TX and Bama)
10-2 Bama (loss to Vandy and LSU)
10-2 LSU (loss to USC and OM)
10-2 Ole Miss (loss to Kentucky and UGA)

That’s six teams. I think Texas, Texas A&M, and Georgia would be locks. The last spot would come down to probably a 4th BIG 10 team and LSU….

Bama and Ole Miss would be on outside looking in. Maybe LSU as well.

ND will always be in that discussion with a 9-3 record. It would not surprise me if they jump 10-2 times on occasion depending on the 10-2 in question in any given year.

Based on the above six predictions LSU can’t lose to Ole Mis. They would have to lose to ATM for both LSU and ATM to be in that projected 6.

I think any major conference team at 10 wins before selection happens will get in unless there are more of them than there are spots.

I don't think any 9-3 teams will push out 10-2 teams.

I think every SEC team at 10-2 would be ahead most 10-2 ACC or Big 12 teams

No you couldn't.

A&M plays LSU.

Only if they have good wins. Mizzou’s weak schedule could keep them out at 2 losses.

Though, if other teams keep losing across the country, it’ll look like CFB 25 and have 3 loss teams in the playoff so who knows.

Yes, with the exception of Missouri potentially.
I am not saying a 10-2 Missouri wouldn’t - but I do think they could be the one in trouble given other dynamics. Eye test and the way their schedule sets up, etc. If there are several 10-2 teams in the SEC, they are going to be the odd team out, and I think that is fairly obvious.

No, this is nothing personal against Missouri. It’s just what a I believe when I look at the analytics of everything.

I don’t disagree. If we end up 10-2, that most likely means our best win is against OU. Our losses wouldn’t be terrible assuming Bama rights the ship and A&M keeps rolling. I just don’t think that gets us in though.

The ACC may have a interesting situation at the end of the regular season. Clemson, Miami, and SMU could all realistically go 8-0 (they don't play each other in the regular season).

The reality is it's going to be rare that a 10-2 team is ranked behind any team with 3 losses unless the third loss came in a conference championship game.

The question on if a 10-2 team gets left out will be largely if there are enough places.

Not that a 9-3 team with a tougher schedule gets ranked ahead of them.

With the ACC and Big 12 becoming lesser conferences, I think their 10-2 teams will generally lag behind the Big 10 and SEC 10-2 teams. So I don't think a SEC 10-2 will be in danger of being left out.

Think about it this way. Mizzou has a loss and is still ranked ahead of undefeated Pitt. If Pitt loses to Clemson and Louisville, their best win will be an unranked team. That's the kind of record that Mizzou would be fighting to get into the last playoff spot at 10-2. Or someone like Iowa State who loses their last two games of the year against the only ranked teams on their schedule (KSU and Utah).

Even the SEC teams with the lightest schedules will have more wins against better regarded opponents than Big 12 or ACC 10-2 teams.

The expanded playoffs more than makes up for a lack of CCG. The winner of that game is the only team that benefits from it with a first round bye, the loser simply gathers more bumps, bruises, possibly season ending injuries, and may also have one more loss than another high profile team that didn't make the CCG thereby giving the playoff committee something to think about.

I think most years even the loser of the CCG goes to the playoffs, but it could end up screwing someone in the future. Of course if that happens they will simply expand to 16 the following year and water down the accomplishment of making the playoffs even more than it is already.

I agree with this for the most part(definitely no big six) except I’ll say who you are does carry a little weight. I could see a 10-2 arky mizz Ms st being left out once a blue moon just so the committee can say……see, we’re unbiased remember when 10-2 Kansas state got in over 10-2 mizzou

Not with a loss to N Illinois. That's a dealbreaker even for ND

I think they should go away but if they do take it away they’ll replace it with another game. Would love to see conference title games turned to play in games. Jointly flex the auto bid muscle with the big. Guarantee both conferences 4 auto bids. Guarantee acc and 12 one. Go5 gets one and let 5th place sec team take on 5th place big ten in neutral site play in.

I don't think there will be any 10-2 SEC teams in the SEC at seasons end.

Haven't you heard about the gauntlet? The grind?

And the SEC teams that get into the playoff won't win because they will have "beaten each other up" during the regular season.

And it is going to be compounded by the fact that the non playoff SEC teams who are relegated to bowls "won't want to be there." .
