Yes or no? Any SEC team that's 10-2 on selection Sunday gets into the CFP playoffs

It's really not that complicated.

...I feel as if some people around here are overthinking it. The only scenario that could possibly become hairy is a 10-3 SEC team that just played like shite in the SECCG less than 24 hours before the committee selects the teams and recency bias kicks in.

I agree. With that said, the SEC gets 4 spots this year in the playoff, true or false?

10-2 gets you in.

My only question is a 10-2 team that makes it to the SECCG and loses to be 10-3..... Will they get in? They probably should, but probably won't.

I think we get at least 4.

Politics will enter in. They always do. a 2 loss BAMA gets in even with Vandy being that loss but the same would not be true for others. Even though UGA gets a lot of privilege from recent success if they’d been BAMA they wouldn’t have sat at home last season.

Those in the lower spots when decision time comes will have their name brand be the tie breaker more often than should happen.

4 SEC teams is my prediction for the median and average, when the 12 team playoff era is all said and done.

The cynic in me says it is a foregone conclusion both the B1G and SEC get 4 apiece. It's an unspoken part of the framework.

Probably, but it’s a committee.

I’d rather the slots be earned during season.

The criteria should be established prior to the season and based totally on the results of the games and the structure of the preseason criteria.

1. Road wins
2. P4 wins
3. Record of teams you beat
4. Record of teams you lost to
5. Personal fouls/unsportsmanlike conduct- more is a negative
6. Penalties: more is a negative
7. Turnover margin
8. Red zone % score
9. Defensive ppg
10. Game control

Decide what the criteria are and then play the games. Do t leave it up to a committee to pick between 10-2 Arkansas and 10-2 Clemson some random year. Lay out the measurables and play football.

I think they will.

Wisconsin lost the Big 10 championship in 2019 and didn’t move from 8 at 10-3.

And 2017 Auburn was #7 in the CFP rankings going into their bowl. and that was at 10-3 with a loss in the SEC Championship.

I mean… can you name 5 teams outside those conference that are really top 12 teams?

Well, no.

These are the people who will select the teams that don't earn automatic top 4 ranked conference champions berths. I have to say, they went out of their way to eliminate an obvious SEC or B1G bias with this committee.

What about Missouri? Suppose it loses one more, giving it one good win over Oklahoma or Alabama. Schedule is really weak.

Now I think this is moot as Missouri will likely lose 2-3 more games, but trying to find a 10-2 team that might get left out.

so 12 spots.

4 autos.

2 autos go to SEC/Big 10

So that’s 8 free spots. 1 to some G5 school.

I thinj all 7 could be SEC/Big 10 schools.

who else isn’t there?

I think you're correct about the SEC & Big 10 rightfully earning the majority of the spots. The howls will be loud from ACC and Big 12 country though.

This is USA Today's projections as of today. They have the SEC with 5, Big 10 with 3.

at Iowa State. They won't make it past KSU or win the XII CG even if they somehow make it there. They haven't played anyone better than a 5.5/10.

Clem fsu miami nd. Those are the only teams most fans and media could honestly see gathering enough talent to survive a playoff. So the big/sec should get at least 8 most years. Bid thievery is probably the only scenario the big sec don’t take at least 8 slots. There’s going to be years the acc/12 have party crashers due to auto bids. Kinda like years where Oakland can win 20 basketball games but beats a lethargic Gonzaga in the ccg and all the sudden a one bid conference becomes two bid

If you lose 3 games out of 13 contests...honestly do they really deserve to be national champion?

Using UGA as an example we could presumably lose to bama, texas, then one of thsoe teams again. We would be better than 100+ other teams and all 3 of our losses would be to teams in the top 5. But still...the regular season has to mean something. I would personally hate it obviously, but I mean..you shouldn't lose 3 games before bowl season either.

And there it is...we live in a world now where certain teams hope they don't make the SECCG. So theoretically a 10-2 SEC team that doesn't make the conference Championship game gets in the Playoffs over a 10-3 SEC team who lost in the SECCG. How can that be good for our conference?

^^^ Any team that finishes 9-3 doesn't have a pot to piss in, I agree. At that point, any whining and griping from their fans should be interrupted with "well, you shouldn't have lost 3 fricking games then!"
