That retard beat a lot of people and won a Natty. He was a top notch recruiter who was a perfect cultural fit and knew how to motivate his players at an elite level.
Kelly is no retard. He's an intelligent disciplinarian that is somewhat cold and aloof. He doesn't like to recruit personally and likes his staff to take care of it, he has lost recruits in the past because he didn't even call them (5 Stars). He's a completely opposite style from the last 3 coaches you have had. He's from New England and has never lived further South than Cincinnati. He likely doesn't even know what a crawfish or boudin. Kelly was a perfect fit at Notre Dame personality wise.
Maybe that translates to LSU but the likely scenario is he does a rebuild just like he did when he got to ND. Are LSU fans going to be patient for 3 years while a Yankee changes the entire culture and structure of LSU football and doesn't win quickly? I guess we will see.

I think it's a good hire for a number of reasons, but not because he's the pinnacle of head coaches in terms of wins on the field.
I think he will bring stability to a program that is in deep shite with regards to public image, institutional control issues, and then of course winning.
I don't think he'll win many SEC championships but I do think he's a very wise hire for the current state of LSU.

Exactly. I would want someone that could buy a ferrari to fix up my trailer. Chances are they'll have better ideas than myself if that's me.
