Imagine being more outraged by a song like the "Eyes of Texas" than the kind of music that inspired George Floyd to become a career criminal that many bands across CFB play consistently.

Yahoo should spend more time trying to hunt down the guy who killed a young mother for saying "all lives matter" than writing virtue signaling pieces about a fricking song that offended people who literally cried when a meth head, dead beat father, who spent 40 years committing heinous acts against the public (including robbing a woman at gun point in front of a toddler), was killed.

Bet Sark is scouring the internet to see what the drink specials are on 6th Street tonight. I smell derailment

Poor bastard already doesn’t stand a chance. Sad too because that is some of the best playcalling I’ve ever seen in my life the other night.

Wait, you mean the song I learned in Elementary school is racist?
Well, the song you sing today doesn't really conjure up racist connotations (and I see no problem with singing it, given current context), but, it's origin might surprise you. It was originally a minstrel show staple. Check out these lyrics published in 1894:

(SOLO) I once did know a girl named Grace--
(QUARTET) I'm wukkin' on de levee;
(SOLO) She done brung me to dis sad disgrace
(QUARTET) O' wukkin' on de levee.

I been wukkin' on de railroad
All de livelong day,
I been wukkin' on de railroad
Ter pass de time away.
Doan' yuh hyah de whistle blowin'?
Ris up, so uhly in de mawn;
Doan' yuh hyah de cap'n shouin',
"Dinah, blow yo' hawn?"

Sing a song o' the city;
Roll dat cotton bale;
N***** aint half so happy
As when he's out o' jail

Norfolk foh its oystahshells,
Boston foh its beans,
Chahleston foh its rice an' cawn,
But foh n***** New Awleens.

You have to also remember that the central theme of minstrels shows was to portray black people as lazy (except when it came to sex), stupid, and criminal. It was no different in Austin.

Now, to have your school song written as a parody of a minstrel show tune, with all that comes with that genre, is something that I'm glad I don't have to defend. I think there is a defense, but its not as straightforward as one might think.

The song, set to the tune of “I’ve been working on the railroad,”

One of the funniest things I remember years ago was a UT (Knoxville) friend asking me why Auburn and Georgia bands always played "I've been working on the railroad" at the games.

One of the first questions he was asked concerned the Texas school song “The Eyes of Texas,” which was exposed in recent months for its roots in racism.

Planned parenthood is rooted in racism.

When will it be cancelled?

I'm literally responding in a thread about Texas's head coach started by a member of another fanbase. You're not very good at this reading thing are you?

Only time any one “thinks” of you is when y’all troll others trying to act relevant

I know I've said this before to one of your posts, but it never fails: The lack of self-awareness here truly is second to none

The UGA and Auburn fight songs are actually set to the tune of Battle Hymn of the Republic.

Too bad you can’t refute the facts. So who would lack “self awareness?” Someone expressing an commonly known, nationwide held view or someone like you trying to deflect? Your new coach hasn’t been on the job three days, and you people are already f*****g him up. Worst fan base/culture in college football. Go back to your cesspool.

The proper response to that question is "How in the frick does that have anything to do with winning football games?" Then just call on the next reporter.

Yahoo doesn’t follow it’s own pretend wokeness. 61 prominent employees listed on Yahoo/Wikipedia and not a single one is black. Never had a black officer. Yet they love to cancel and play the whole woke card.
