Would we welcome GTech back to the conference with open arms?

And why did we get rid of them to begin with?

Sure. Just need to feed Vandy to the West and the East can feast on GA Tech. Can't have both cupcakes.

What’d they bitch about?
Did they really think they’d be ND of the south?

Nope.
Great school, Atlanta market, and good brand.
But mid-level.

GT left on their own. It was Dodd's decision. SEC schools were running off players they had signed, who weren't performing" so they could basically "over sign". Dodd had a disdain for that.
I would very much welcome back GT. Auburn played them for years after they left the SEC.

Good god… “why did they leave and are hated like vermin in the first place?” They have this thing called the internet and in it you will find details that will help you understand that…
… Ga Tech isn’t ever getting back into the SEC

Have any of you ever visited Sewanee? Pretty little campus but talk about the middle of no fricking where. It’s on top of a mountain in Tennessee and the nearest town is 45 minutes to an hour away. It makes StarkVegas look like downtown NYC.

I want to say Dodd wanted the number of scholarship players dropped down from 120. Rumor is Bear said he agreed but then voted against lowering it.
Edit: and yeah they did. ND was on tv practically every week. They thought with games being broadcast out of Atlanta they could do the same thing. It backfired on them though.

Or instead of wasting all the time it took to type that, you could’ve just told me that you don’t know the answer either.

Are they good at any single sport?
Posted on 7/6/22 at 3:11 am to finchmeister08
No.
SEC did not get rid of GT. They left on their own accord because they were greedy and wanted to keep all their bowl money to themselves.
They will never be allowed back in the SEC.

The 140 rule was at the center of Tech’s decision to leave the SEC. Bryant was in agreement with Dodd, but UA President Dr. Rose (along with others) voted against Dodd/Tech. This is a pretty good summary written by Mark Bradley of the AJC.
Tech/Dodd

The 140 rule was certainly part of the equation but they don’t want people to know that greed was the major factor. Back then bowl revenue was a large amount of the football team’s income. The Conference members shared (just like they continue to do today) those revenues. Georgia Tech did not want to keep sharing their money with the conference teams. They thought they could be like Notre Dame and be Independent and keep all of the money for themselves. It worked for a short time but was a disastrous decision in the long term.
And of course they eventually joined the ACC. That is where they will remain.

Not sure what GT adds to the SEC. I think a school like UVA or Univ of Maryland would be much better as it gives exposure to new regional locations.

We did not get rid of the Bumbles. Their coach and Bear Bryant got into a scuffle and back then Bumbles football coach had the power to leave the SEC. Lesson learned and like "Casino" they never let coaches have that much power again.
Now Presidents, AD's, and lots of lawyers have that power.

They were good back in the days
Won 3 MNC's in 3 different Eras with 3 different coaches and Heisman coached there at one time.
